I have recently been missing my workplace and the people. I sometimes have second thoughts on my decision to quit. Well, I remind myself of all the reasons but sometimes feelings dominate the reasoning ability of brain. The saddest thing is my boyfriend still works there and we were in a live-in relationship (if spending weekends together counts as live-in). I miss him often and terrified of the thought of losing him. Have I made the most stupidest decision of my life? I just don't know.. Video calling and texting cannot replace the physical presence of him. Even though my office people sucked, I still miss them partially. Are all these emotions justified and is it okay for feeling pathetic once in a while?

TL,DR: My boyfriend thinks the only interesting mode of conversation is active discussion and he gets upset/frustrated with me when I try to disengage from discussions
Hey guys, I (21f) have been having a recurring argument with my boyfriend (24m) and I wanted to get everyone's perspective on how we can resolve things :) For context, we've been together for a little over 2 years and have been living together for about 2 years as well. We usually get along really well, but this is a recurring point of conflict and I'm at my wit's end with how to resolve things.
So basically, my boyfriend loves discussing things. To him, this is the only interesting way to have a conversation whereas I also like to have light-hearted conversations about how the day went, ect.
Anyways, I don't have the bandwidth to always discuss something controversial. I find it tiring and it makes me feel like there is discord, which I just don't want 24/7. For example, my boyfriend and I were looking into US elections today, and eventually we struck a conversation (specifically about abortion rights). This went on for about an hour and a half, peacefully and constructively. We eventually ended things at this point:
Him: I believe abortion is an important right, but it's not something we should condone as society. In fact, it should be punished (like getting tickets for speeding) Me: Abortions aren't easy; women are already dissuades enough by compromising their physical, mental and financial situation in case of an abortion. Him: But if we made a pill that cost 10€ and would let a women discreetly abort without any physical/mental repercussions, shouldn't we punish people to dissuade them?
At which point I wanted to stop discussing because I had to leave for work in about 45 minutes and still had to get ready. So I tell him I want to stop discussing and get up, but he follows me around the house trying to continue the topic. Eventually, I lose my patience and tell him to just stop talking to me; I will be working until 10:30pm and I'd just like a moment of peace before I leave for work.
But he just won't leave it. He now shifts to the topic of how dismissive I am for being unable to continue a simple discussion, and how much I'd fail in a work environment where any type of discussion would be required. Which I think is really uncalled for, so I basically pack my things and leave the house 30mins early because I just need a break from this conversation and I can't be left alone in my own home, even if I asked for it.
Of course, this is recounted from my perspective, so please don't be too harsh on him because obviously I'm biased. I tried to recount the events as neutrally as I could. We usually get along well; it's just that we go through the motions of me trying to end a discussion somewhat regularly and things usually end in this way. I don't enjoy it, and I'd like to resolve this point of conflict. So: What can we do in order to better understand each other in order to stop these things from happening?

Title says most. I have USAA and the deductible is 2% of the homes value for a roof replacement. So I’ve been hesitant to file a claim, since that’s a significant amount of money. However, one of the roofers that came through my neighborhood said that USAA pays out more than most and he shouldn’t have any problem getting 80-100% of my deductible covered.
Just wondering how that works. Thanks for any info you can provide!

Ever since we got our internet upgraded and frontier put a bunch of eero hubs throughout our oddly-shaped house, I have had constant connection issues. I need to reset the network pretty much daily so various devices will actually receive internet. Even without moving anywhere (ie an Amazon fire stick, or wall mounted tv) devices seem to just drop connection. It'll say it's connected, but with no internet. Every time this happens, other devices are on the network and the internet is working fine. Sometimes resetting the network, or unplugging the modem, router, switchgear etc for a while solves the issue. My home server, Samsung TV, and now my desktop absolutely refuse to connect. Well, they connect, but can't access the internet. I've factory reset the devices, I've reset the routers, I've checked with my phone hotspot to make sure the devices didn't coincidentally just break (they work fine). This internet system is an absolute nightmare and I have never had so many wifi issues. Nothing is even close to being out of range, like I said we have four different eero hubs throughout the house. There is always one nearby. They work like absolute garbage. I've tried manual IP addresses, changing DNS, everything I can think of. Samsung is clueless as to what the problem is with my TV (brand new several thousand dollar smart TV I can't use now), and frontier is worse than useless.
Does anyone know of some kind of third party professional I can hire to come and fix my internet issue? I'd be happy to pay someone, I just have no idea what to look for. Home internet expert?

I've decided to make a sizable investment in the REIT considering the quality of it's portfolio, the looming UDC sale, it's current AFFO/FFO payout ration, and long term trends that I think are being misaprehended by critics of office real estate amid work from home (WFH) sentiment.
My main concern is North America's lag in the return to office. I think that sub par public transportation infastructure, housing inaffordability and elevates child care costs are among the biggest culprits
(all of which were not meaningfully addressed during the pandemic. Consider the fact that the Crosstown LRT project is still not complete after the City was shut down and construction labour was deemed essential and continued...)
Notwithstanding, I don't think WFH is a realistic expectation, especially for employees in sectors where onboarding requires in-person interaction for integration and learning.
As a yonger person working in legal administration, I don't like the idea of working remotely. I currently work at a small law practice and I get a lot of helpful lessions and tidbits from our principal and other experienced staff. I can also simply walk over to others from time to time and ask questions about various legal matters and get a lot of tips and feedback. The experiemce has been so good, I've decided to write the LSAT later this year.
I don't like interacting through screens/screen share all the time. I feel more engaged when I'm sharing physical space with others (is that odd?).
I also have smaller living quarters and I don't like being home all the time. I feel like the among the biggest critics of the office are contract workers with better living spaces (a big suburban house, with a dedicated room). I live in a somewhat dingy apartment building in Toronto. I don't want to be relegated to this space in perpetuity.
Granted I'm not in a cubicle. I have a decent office space with a big window. There's lots of light and a nice view of Danforth Ave. Lot's of beautiful women on the Danforth btw... 😄
I tend to agree with the outgoing CEO of Allied, Michael Emory. I know he can come off as sort of an old fogey, but he has a point. Higher quality buildings, with good airflow, natural light, high ceilings and integration with local amentities are definitely a draw for me.
Although I can't recall the specific source, I heard a lot of employees in Europe, China and South America have returned to the office and that NA is the main laggard due the the foregoing reasons I mentioned earlier.
In my severely underqualified opinion, I think Allied is likely a solid buy at these levels (alrhough it could drop lower this year, if something else breaks in the economy amid higher rates).
Any thoughts? I think that long term, They'll be some hybrid, some wfh and some dedicated office positions.

TL; DR: I (24M) have finally given up on trying to find somebody who likes me. Not going to lie, it feels good sometimes having this burden lifted. At random times though I have this overwhelming feeling that I would be coming to an empty home everyday for the rest of my life. I feel paralysed and not able to do / process anything. I just want to avoid that when there are people around. What do I do to prevent that?
I have never been in a relationship nor had anybody ask me out. I am not going into the details about why I'm giving up. I've always been called, "a great guy, dependedable friend" etc etc. The one girl who I vibed with and was pretty serious about has literally told me, "You're the best kind of a person that can exist" and yet she's not with me but my friend. When I had asked her out, she didn't find me worthy of even a chance.
I have been on dating apps for more than a year. I've had a few matches but either they never responded to my messages or were accidental ones. Some where scams. Ohh- one asked me for a referral at my company, that was something new! I can see 4 more likes on my profile but I don't have the mental energy to talk to them. Why even try when I know the outcome? A year of steady disappointments is enough.
I was hanging out with a guy friend and an attractive girl (space) friend. She was telling us about her very new friend from work who's so "nice" that he decided to tag along with her for her boring errands. The guy friend knows this person via a different thing. I look at him and ask if he's "really nice". He smiled and we both started laughing. We tried to explain to our girl friend that he's interested in her. Not her fault either, she's never been unattractive to see how people usually behave. I began by saying, "Anne, look, as an unattractive guy, believe me when I say that people don't behave this way for nothing. You want to check? Just call him and ask him out. We'll see how it goes".
The reason I shared the above incident is I felt good saying it out loud- not tying to cover myself up. I mean most people would never feel bad when they say they can't afford some X car. It's a practical thing- what's there to feel bad about? I just extended that principle a bit to apply to my situation. I want to believe that it works.
It has it's positive aspects. I have a sweet tooth but I know how bad soda is so I make it a rule to only drink a can once a month- not more. However yesterday after the gym, I had a really bad craving for a soda coz I had skipped a snack I usually eat. Before, I would have kicked myself thousand times because I was "ruining the progress I made at gym" or because "that's why people don't like me, I am a fat fuck", But not now, I just accepted it and had a soda and didn't feel bad about it.
The problem with all this is, I have random realisations hit me at times. I am going to stay alone the rest of my life if I accept this route. There's never going to be anybody who'll be there always. My house will always be empty. These thoughts paralyse me for straight up 5-10 minutes at a time before I snap out of it.
These usually occur when I'm alone or focusing at work. I am just afraid the next one will hit me when I'm in an important meeting. I just want to avoid them occuring at work and eventually never. What do I do?
