2023.06.10 17:07 LittleRoundPika Getting anxious about starting...

F/40yo/5'5"/220 lbs, comorbidities sleep apnea and mildly high cholesterol
Been overweight/slightly obese much of my life but when the pandemic hit I gained 30 pounds and have been stuck there ever since. This year I've given it the old college try and have (mostly) stuck to a calorie restriction plan (1200 calories/day plus two cheat meals/week). Saw a little bit of weight loss, mostly lost the 8 lbs I'd gained during Christmas, but then was just plateauing around 216 and could never get any lower. I haven't been perfect but I have been sticking to the calorie deficit closely enough that technically I should have seen more progress.
Talked to my doctor and got a prescription for Wegovy; it should be ready to pick up Monday. In the meantime I'm getting myself freaked out by reading about all the horrible side effects on Reddit. Maybe this isn't the solution for me, since I cannot stand nausea or vomiting (I mean, who can, but I REALLY cannot handle the slightest amount of pain/discomfort, especially vomiting, it makes me feel like I'm dying. Don't ask me about how I handled giving birth 5 years ago). But also I feel like I need to try it. I would love to be a healthy or healthy-ish weight again and not have to worry about all the comorbidities that come with obesity.
So here are a few random questions:
  1. Are the side effects really that bad?
  2. Is it true your stomach can't handle raw vegetables anymore?
  3. How about beans? Can your stomach handle these? I'm vegetarian, so my protein is mostly tofu/beans/fake meat.
  4. Can you ever eat sweets/fatty foods, like even a couple of bites? I'm prepared to change my diet, my diet has been mostly healthful over the last 6 months, but if I could never at least have a bite of a sugary/salty treat I'd be sad. Later this year we're going on a Christmas market tour in Europe and if I can't sample a tiny bit of German pastries/French wine/Swiss chocolates, what's even the point. (Said with only mild sarcasm.)
  5. Should I go ahead and have my doctor prescribe Zofran as a precaution, or should I wait until the nausea/vomiting actually happens?
Thanks for reading! I don't mean to sound whiny about any of this, I'm prepared for a big lifestyle change and some side effects, but am still anxious.

2023.06.10 17:05 -YummyPineTree- I think my manager is getting in trouble because of my career coach and I feel super bad.

Hi I'm on my second internship in health consulting at big 4. I've been getting billable work and I have almost a years experience at this company now.
Recently though I expressed lower capacity on my current engagement I was an active member on to my career coach who is a scrum master on my new engagement. This new engagement is also client facing so takes precedence of my non client facing role.
Prior to this my manager expressed to me my coach would have an available slot for me for basic data entry every morning. They discussed as part of a feedback meeting about me.
Both knew I was active in my current engagement and covering for associates annual leave, particularly at month end where it gets crazy.
The issue is the new engagement actually isn't basic data entry as had been represented, it's full time 100% capacity work that's somehow vital to the operation and I was pulled off my old engagement without telling the senior manager until the last possible second.
He was extremely annoyed because of understaffing and my manager was thrown under the bus and blamed. It is now likely impossible for me to do a handover process to whatever new person is coming on old engagement.
My manager gone on annual leave now and it looks like she dodged accountability completely. We had a few video calls over it and worked out the timeline of events and the poor woman said she felt sick as the incident is being investigated :(
I felt humiliated asking the associates I'm leaving understaffed for help generating month end reports after we found out via a group chat I was leaving (news to me at that stage).
This was also allowed to happen because someone (probably my career coach/scrum master) told the client I would be working on data entry BEFORE anyone said anything to my senior manager and therefore they had to let me go. I think this was done because people are going on annual leave and I am covering for them.
It seems wild to me how she went over everyone's head to the client, didn't check my booking (even though I told her I was busy months end and this is my main job), didn't tell my senior manager and didn't communicate anything to my manager over email so there is no record of this happening.
There was also an incident with my coach where I travelled 6 hours round trip to help out at an internal firm event she chairs and she essentially ignored me and I ended up walking around a building for 45 minutes looking for the conference room after which she did not speak to me once. I was pissed but I just got over it and moved on.
Sorry for the long post / rant.

A DEFECT IN NEUROLOGY, NOT A DEFECT OF HUMANITY ADHD: A National Crisis
2023
To Larrakia Country I write to you from the lands and home of Larrakia, in the Northern Territory, which I am grateful to call my home too. Their elders, leaders and children are the owners and protectors of this land and its stories and songs. I am grateful for their hospitality and grace, considering the intolerance and violence that they continue to endure. I dedicate my work and myself to support their stewardship, in whatever role I am asked.
To my sons You are incredible people already. This is one of the biggest things I think I will ever do to make the world you are growing up in a better place than the one I was born into. We have already endured so much together, yet you go from strength to strength. The Blue Witch’s days are numbered.
To E, A, J, M, Ki, N, P, B, Ke, and all the Spirited Children Some might think I paint a bleak picture in this document. You all know this isn’t even the half of it. You deserve the life you want to lead, anything less is a failure, and should be unacceptable to all.
To Dad, Star, Cat, Moh. It is a comfort to know you are somewhere better, when we are left here.
A DEFECT IN NEUROLOGY, NOT A DEFECT IN HUMANITY ADHD: A National Crisis
Abstract ADHD is the biggest and easiest dealt with human challenge of our time. It is a debilitating impairment, that is lifelong and brings no inherent benefits or superpowers. It has likely been a part of hominid neurology for 300,000 years, and in that time it has been systematically rejected by genetic evolution as an enormous set of risks to the survival of the human race. It brings earlier death, more disease, isolation, hopelessness. Making the people who live with it even more remarkable. I have seen neglect, abuse, cruelty and ignorance that would make Dickens blanch. ADHD is routinely rejected, shunned and left in-addressed by Psychiatrists, Paediatricians, Nurses, Teachers, Judges, Police, leaving families in ruins, good and vibrant people be turned to husks, and children as young as 7 turn to suicide.
Not understanding it, not treating it costs our economy $20.5baud a year, if not more.
The need for a national effort to tackle the challenges is paramount to the future success of all Australians.
Self and Evidenced Truths.
  1. People with ADHD deserve recognition as living beings with rights, dignity, and aspirations despite our impairments.
  2. Fundamental to those rights, dignity and aspirations being observed we deserve guaranteed access to our medications, support, workplace arrangements and other accommodations across our lifespan.
  3. ADHD is a current and emerging Australian national crisis that demands immediate response in kind.
  4. ADHD is a chronic neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorder that impairs many aspects of living, at all points of the lifespan (Faraone et al., 2015).
  5. People diagnosed with ADHD face higher risks of other neurodevelopmental disorders, of suffering child abuse, experience school exclusions and engagement, discrimination, financial predation, other mental health problems, physical disorders, substance use, accidental injuries, chronic health problems and premature death, including suicide attempts and completions. Children are twice as likely to die by age 10, adults are 5 times more likely to be dead by age 25 (Barkley et al., 2022).
  6. Stimulant medications should be used as soon as possible and practicable following a diagnosis. Several Stimulant medications are safe and effective for treating ADHD and for preventing many adverse outcomes. Non-Stimulant and Non-medication treatments are less effective. (Storebø et al., 2015).
  7. ADHD costs Australia $20.4 billion per year in lost productivity, wellbeing, and public services (Deloitte Access Economics, 2019).
  8. There is a need for more awareness, education, and training explaining what ADHD is, as many people with ADHD remain undiagnosed and untreated due to ignorance, bias, or incompetence (Faraone et al., 2019).
  9. Australia’s attitude towards ADHD costly, uncoordinated, and unfair. This harms people with ADHD in multiple ways, such as limiting their ability to manage their symptoms, increasing their financial burden, and reducing their social support (Australian Clinical Practice Guidelines for ADHD Working Group, 2022).
As a Matter of Urgency
  1. The Commonwealth Government must fund a co-designed national awareness campaign for ADHD, highlighting its medical nature, the importance of early and persistent intervention and its impacts across the lifespan, and all aspects of modern life as a matter of priority. a. With particular focus on key peak bodies; Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency and its members, the Australian Council of Unions and its Members, Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority Curriculum, Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Australian Finance Industry Association, Law Council of Australia, Police Federation of Australia, Universities Australia, and Australian Council for Private Education and Training.
  2. The Commonwealth Government must expand the professions that can screen, assess and diagnose ADHD to include Teachers, General Practitioners, Mental Health Nurse Practitioners, Midwives and Remote Area Nurses, as well as expand telehealth options for remote areas.
  3. The Commonwealth Government must establish a national framework for ADHD assessment and support that clarifies roles and responsibilities of different agencies and ensures seamless transitions across life stages and reduce costs for government.
  4. The Commonwealth Government should mandate that bachelors, postgraduate degrees, and Community Service certificates and diplomas in health sciences, enrolled and registered nursing, education, community health, criminal and industrial law and allied health fields include compulsory modules in ADHD, co-designed with people with ADHD.
  5. The Commonwealth Government must delist methylphenidate, amphetamines, and their various formulations as Schedule 8 drugs and relist them as Schedule 4, they must also expand Medicare and PBS coverage for ADHD medication to include all people with a diagnosis of ADHD. This would reduce the stigma and discrimination associated with ADHD medication use as well as simplify the prescription and dispensing process for people with ADHD and their prescribers.
  6. The Commonwealth Government must fund presentation sensitive research on ADHD and its comorbidities, as well as presentation responsive training for anyone who cares for, educates, works with, or employs people with ADHD.
  7. The Commonwealth Government must direct new training and mentoring programs for practitioners, staff and community and health service delivery areas, focusing on Peri-Natal Services, Daycare and Primary School staff. Rationales Personal Experience My personal experience is as a father of a child with ADHD and as a sufferer of undiagnosed ADHD myself. My professional experience with government, hospitals, mental health, drug and alcohol case management, and the elderly, has led me to being an Advocate.
I suffered countless unnecessary medical, emotional, economic hardships and injustices throughout my life because of my undiagnosed ADHD. As a child I experienced routine ridicule, shame, and punishments. I was regularly abused and excluded by teachers, both immediate and extended family, peers, and random members of the public, verbally and physically. For symptoms, colloquially and incorrectly referred to as behaviours, of my Combined Presentation of ADHD. Combined Presentation of ADHD means that I have both inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive symptoms. Symptoms are the observable signs of ADHD, such as difficulty paying attention, being easily distracted, fidgeting, talking excessively, not saying much, daydreaming, working memory issues, etc. Symptoms that informed my personality and identity, that I was targeted for, abused for.
As I grew up, contrary to popular belief that ADHD symptoms get better as people age, the effects of my undiagnosed ADHD quickly got worse. The lack of access to university due to needing to work to support myself and look after my ailing father put me in unskilled retail positions, which became administrative positions before accidentally falling into Community Services. Through those careers, the constant workplace bullying and harassment prior to my diagnosis, needing to leave positions that were constantly either short contract or put up for recruitment where my skills, knowledge and wisdom meant nothing has left me with a colourful and varied career. The experience is nice but puts me at a significant disadvantage as I get older. My undiagnosed ADHD made it possible for me to perform well in different jobs. But as I juggled time management, organisation, communication, and self-regulation I would be burnt out as I self-medicated with work, and I would become expendable. Less time in positions, less experience, less expertise, less money, less able to provide for my family, less able to take part in society.
Despite my experience with health systems and supporting disabilities, my son who is 5, is facing similar barriers already and he is aware of himself. Being unable to access practical support for his disability, medication has been rationed as though we should be grateful to be receiving any assistance at all. We are 6 months post the last review, and the practitioner we saw last, hopefully mistakenly, provided us with incorrect information. Both his school and education department in the Northern Territory refused to allow therapists into the school to do observations without onerous and impractical limitations, not least of which was opposing observations in classes which effectively means no inclusive practices. It has come to the point where, to conserve his and my own mental well-being we will have to close his plan out. This shows how the education system continues to fail to accommodate the needs of children with ADHD and violates their right to inclusive education, and not much has changed in 30 years.
The emotional and physical toll of everyday life with ADHD and past traumas makes life an ongoing struggle. My Combined Presentation ADHD, physically, is managed, but even that is tenuous. My health is up in the air, as getting regular reviews with a psychiatrist is impossible, despite the medication I am on being perfectly safe and the prognosis of my condition is unremarkable while on medication. Regular reviews with a psychiatrist are essential for monitoring my medication dosage, side effects, and effectiveness, as well as for addressing any other mental health issues that I endure. You’ll need to start another Inquiry before I talk about those though.
ADHD has meant more serious consequences, and harder to rectify situations: homelessness joblessness, discrimination, isolation. I am still standing but am never safe from them. These are some of the ways that ADHD, diagnosed and undiagnosed, has impacted my life. Due to the lack of recognition, respect, dignity that I deserve as a person, disability or not. I received my Diagnosis less than 3 years ago and already I have experienced the best stability and success I have ever had. In this 3 years I have been homeless, unemployed, suffering severe trauma and depression. All dealt with alone.
My NDIS application is now 18 months into its appeal. I wonder if it will survive longer than the AAT?
ADHD assessments and diagnosis: Children and adults with ADHD often face various gaps and barriers in accessing appropriate assessment, diagnosis, and treatment services for their condition. These include lack of awareness and recognition of ADHD among health professionals and the public; stigma and discrimination associated with ADHD; variability in diagnostic practices and criteria; limited availability and accessibility of specialist services; high out-of-pocket costs for diagnosis and treatment; lack of coordination and integration of care across different sectors; insufficient monitoring and evaluation of treatment outcomes; and lack of evidence-based guidelines and quality standards for ADHD care. These gaps and barriers contribute to the underdiagnoses and under treatment of ADHD in Australia and limit the potential benefits of early intervention and quality care.
ADHD management: Qualified and experienced practitioners who can assess and diagnose ADHD in children and adults are in short supply, especially in rural and remote areas. This leads to long waiting times, inflated costs, and inconsistent quality of assessments, and cascading health outcomes. People with the Inattentive presentation of ADHD, which is predominantly girls and women, face significant gender bias in ADHD assessments, support services and research. This leads to under recognition, misdiagnosis and inadequate treatment and supports of both inattentive presentation ADHD and female-specific issues related to ADHD. Different sectors and levels of government fail to coordinate and integrate their support services for people with ADHD. This creates gaps, overlaps and confusion in accessing education, health, disability, and social services. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) staff, and feeder service staff incorrectly prevent and discourage people with ADHD as a primary disability from making access requests. This flows to review mechanisms, including the Australian Administrative Tribunal. This excludes and isolates many people with ADHD from accessing not just NDIS support, but any support at all. Many people with ADHD cannot afford or access ADHD medication, especially those who are not eligible for Medicare or PBS subsidies. This limits their treatment options and affects their quality of life.
The impact of ADHD on individuals, families, and society: Children and adults with ADHD have a significantly reduced life expectancy and are more likely to die prematurely from various causes, such as accidents, suicide, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and substance abuse. The reduction in life expectancy ranges from 9 to 13 years for people with ADHD compared to those without ADHD. The risk of premature death is higher for those with more severe ADHD symptoms, comorbid disorders, and untreated ADHD. In Australia, this means that (statistically) about 1,900 deaths per year would be attributable to ADHD, but further study would be necessary to investigate. Children and adults with ADHD are more likely to suffer from various chronic physical and mental health conditions, such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, asthma, allergies, sleep disorders, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, substance use disorders, and antisocial behavior. These conditions can impair the quality of life and functioning of people with ADHD and increase their health care costs and utilization. In Australia, the annual health system cost of ADHD is estimated to be $546 million. Children and adults with ADHD face various economic challenges and disadvantages, such as lower educational attainment, lower income, higher unemployment, higher poverty, lower productivity, higher criminality, higher health care expenses, and higher social service costs. The annual cost of ADHD to the Australian society is estimated to be $20.4 billion, which comprises $12.8 billion in financial costs and $7.6 billion in wellbeing costs.
Awareness of ADHD: ADHD is not a result of poor parenting, low intelligence, or moral weakness. ADHD is a lifelong condition that can persist from childhood to adulthood and affect various aspects of life. The importance of recognising ADHD as a genetic, neurological medical condition, requiring medication as a first line of successful management, and not a behavioural issue, cannot be overstated. Health professionals, educators, employers and the public lack awareness and understanding of ADHD, which causes stigma, discrimination and underdiagnoses of ADHD. Research funding for ADHD in Australia is inadequate, which hampers the development of evidence-based practice guidelines, interventions, and policies for people with ADHD. This also limits the opportunities for innovation and collaboration in addressing the challenges posed by ADHD. Children with ADHD typically receive a disproportionate percentage of school based harassment, both from peers, and education staff. Routinely EAPs are formulated in opposition to recommendations made by specialist practitioners, and children are severely punished for not meeting the often odious or impossible goals. Detentions, responsibilities, suspensions, supervision and expulsions are common place. In the classroom, ignorant and unqualified teachers harass students and parents to stop behaviours they, from no basis, deem developmentally inappropriate. Time off to be with the excluded children is often supported by employers, higher education facilities, until they decide that enough is enough. ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that has a strong genetic basis. ADHD is associated with structural and functional differences in the brain, especially in the regions involved in attention, executive function, emotion regulation and reward processing. ADHD is also influenced by environmental factors that can affect gene expression and brain development. The name ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is inadequate and misleading for several reasons. First, it implies that the core symptoms of the disorder are only attention deficit and hyperactivity, while ignoring the causal and key features such as impulsivity, emotional dysregulation, and executive dysfunction. Second, it suggests that attention deficit and hyperactivity are always present and equally severe in all cases of ADHD, while ignoring the heterogeneity and variability of the disorder across individuals, subtypes, and contexts. Third, it conveys a negative and stigmatising view of the disorder as a deficit or a problem, while ignoring the strengths and potential of people with ADHD.
Conclusion The writing is on the wall, whether you read it or not is irrelevant to its truth; improve the outcomes for people with ADHD and the entire nation will benefit, go on ignoring its magnitude and we will continue the cycle again, until the next generation finally addresses it. Addressing it represents net savings for the Commonwealth Government, and the states and territories. I think we could find other ways to spend $7 billion dollars than on badly managing ADHD in Australia.
I am happy to answer more questions or speak to any of the points raised herein.

2023.06.10 17:01 SavingsSpare8104 Brazil's nails

Brazil's nails
Nails have long been seen as a symbol of beauty and elegance in many civilizations around the world. However, in Brazil, nails have taken on a whole new meaning. Brazilian women are obsessed with nail care, not only in salons but also at home.
When it comes to their nails, Brazilians are known wholesale nails for their love of brilliant colors and detailed designs; from bold hues to sparkly embellishments, Brazilian nail art is praised for its inventiveness and originality. The nail culture in Brazil has gotten so popular that it has even become a tourist attraction, with people seeking out nail salons and technicians to partake in the practice.

1. Nails as a Brazilian Cultural Symbol

For millennia, nails have played an important role in Brazilian culture. The Aboriginal population had previously employed natural pigments to paint their bodies, thus it was only natural for those rituals to be assimilated into the daily life of Brazilians. The slave trade introduced a unique mix of civilizations to Brazil during the colonial bulk nail supplies period, each with its own customs and traditions. Add to that the massive stream of immigrants throughout the 18th century, and it's no surprise that Brazil is a creative and diverse melting pot.

2. The Evolution of Brazilian Nail Care

Brazilian women have been doing their own nails at home from the early nineteenth century, with salons being fashionable a little later than in Europe (1920s, as opposed to late 1892 in Europe). Despite the fact that numerous technicians have been working successfully in salons since their inception, the Brazilian government officially recognized and legally protected the industry in 2012.
In a country where nail lacquer is still preferred over other types of nail coating, ladies visit the salon weekly for appointments, and it's not uncommon for some to come in for a color change twice in the same week.
Furthermore, because nail polish can be nail primer purchased for very little money in Brazil, it is affordable to many and is utilized as a sort of escape from austerity in the country's poorer regions.
Because the use of lacquer is prevalent, Brazilian ladies have evolved their own style of painting nails through the years, which is highly interesting and produces lovely results. It entails flooding the cuticles while painting and then cleaning off the surrounding skin using an orange wood stick, cloth, and acetone. This prevents a gap between the product and the proximal nail fold, which could make the service last longer (WARNING: this is not a practice done with gels, only nail lacquer).
The hashtag brazilianmanicure has been trending on social media recently, and many beauty journalists have written about their experiences with the service.

2. Brazilian Nail Art's Evolution from Do-It-Yourself to Professional

For just over a decade, professional nail art has been a developing popular trend in Brazil.
It has long been normal for Brazilian women to apply some form of DYI nail art at home during events such as the World Cup, Carnival, and special occasions, but it wasn't until the early 2010s that it really took off.
The advent of new types of nail polishes, as well as the profession's upskilling, opened up a world of possibilities.

yournailsupplier
Social media also played a role in the trend's rise, as Brazilian women began posting images of their intricate nail art designs on platforms such as Instagram and Facebook. Nail art evolved into a cultural craze, with entire magazines and TV shows devoted to the subject.
Celebrities and social media influencers, like the rest of the world, help popularize nail art styles. Many Brazilian celebrities and TV personalities are recognized for their complex and eye-catching manicure designs, which they frequently display on social media. As a result, fans and followers try to imitate their favorite celebrities by experimenting with the latest nail trends.
There is a lot of speculation about what celebrities will wear on their nails during carnival, for example, with both local and international firms supporting them to utilize their goods.

3. Brazilian Nail Artists: Attention to Detail and Quality

For many years, Brazilian nail artists have earned a reputation for their attention to detail and high quality of work, with some becoming celebrity favorites in Hollywood in the 1980s and 1990s (it wasn't just waxing that was exported to California).
The Brazilian market for various forms of nail coatings acrylic nail brush and extensions has grown in the previous decade or so, pushing the profession further and necessitating upskilling.
Many techs have traveled to Europe and America to hone their skills, compete in global tournaments, and bring back a wealth of information to the country. With the participation of famous personalities on the international circuit, nail tournaments are huge in the country.
At the present, the sector as a whole is expanding, and many brands are dipping their toes into Brazilian waters and talent.

4. Brazil's Booming Nail Industry: Economic Opportunities and Creativity

Nails have become huge business in Brazil, with the country having the world's second most profitable nail industries. Nail salons and technicians can be found all around the country, with both high-end and low-cost options available to customers.

The nail industry has grown to be a substantial contribution to the Brazilian economy, providing jobs and money to a large number of people. It has also paved the way for entrepreneurship, as many nail technicians have formed their own businesses or franchises. Furthermore, the industry has grown in popularity as a tourist attraction, with people eager to sample the Brazilian manicure procedure.
According to data from 2010, Brazil provided 10.1% of global revenue for nail product sales, trailing only the United States (16.6%). This amounted to a stunning $405 million, representing a 6.9% increase over the previous year.
The expansion of the Brazilian nail industry has pedicure kits created economic opportunities for many people while also exhibiting the country's inventiveness and innovation. It looks like TradingView has resolved the issue with live chart sharing. Finally, have my drawings on the live link again, and my subscribers can stop complaining about using the one we share on the stage. Their support was horrible, but thankfully after weeks it is resolved.

2023.06.10 16:59 UnderCover1445 Steam community market API scam

Since the beginning of this year I've noticed people saying that their items were listed without mobile confirmation https://www.reddit.com/SteamScams/comments/10ttgyl/new_scam_or_just_hacked_community_purchases_using/
https://www.reddit.com/SteamScams/comments/uu7fjx/steam_wallet_hacked_but_i_have_steam_guard/
https://www.reddit.com/SteamScams/comments/1425vum/i_was_scammed_my_300_is_gone_csgo/
https://www.reddit.com/SteamScams/comments/11gzvm4/i_got_scammed_on_steam_stole_all_my_rust_skins/ currency is rupee btw, 6.91 rupee to USD is roughly 0.80
This shouldn't be possible but it is. I tried researching about it earlier in the year but I didn't find much or I wasn't searching for the right thing. After doing some experimenting as well as looking through this subreddit I think I have an understanding of how it happens.
How it works is someone gets a hold of an API key through various means. But instead of trying to take your items by tricking you into trading them through a fake trade offer they sell your items on the steam community market for very cheap. Steam has a certain limit on how much you can sell something for without it needing a mobile confirm. I believe as long as its under 1 USD it wont need it.
https://imgur.com/a/KLuVuzf
(Note: not very knowledgeable on how api keys and their scams work, so if you are, please comment)
After trying to setup market listings to gather more examples of this steam suddenly started required confirmation for everything around 1 dollar so I started going lower on the price of various items, Once things under 1 dollar required a confirm, every listing began to require confirmation, even at the market starting price for that specific item. So steam has atleast something against this.
https://imgur.com/a/2Wpj8RB
In order to prevent this from happening, verify that what your trying to login to is legitimate. You could also use family view which allows you to lock certain parts of your account while it is active with a 4 digit code. Family view has a bug though which doesn't allow you to upload images in chat if this setting isnt turned on. https://imgur.com/a/xGzN3st

2023.06.10 16:53 Mtndewboy57 Hombrew Bleed Rule

In the process of making my next campaign for my group. Thought of a new rule I wanted to try implement.
Bleed
  1. Any weapon attack that deals slashing, piercing, or bludgeoning damage that crits a creature. The creature gains a stack of bleed.
  2. Bleed is half the damage, rounded up, caused by the crit and takes place at the end of the creatures next turn
  3. A successful wisdom (medicine) check of a DC 8 + Weapon Hit/DC that caused the bleeding, will remove a stack of bleed.
  4. Bleeding can be stacked for each crit. A successful wisdom (medicine) check, drinks a potion of healing, or if healed by a level 4 or lower healing spell removes one stack of bleed. A level 5 or above healing spell, greater or above healing potion removes ALL stacks of bleed.
  5. At the end of the creatures turn once bleed damage is calculated the stack is removed.
  6. If a creature is resistance to nonmagical damage from slashing, piercing, or bludgeoning damage the creature does not get a bleed stack upon a crit by a non magical slashing, piercing, or bludgeoning damage.
Originally was going add slashing and piercing damage but I figured I'd add bludgeoning and it can be "internal bleeding" so it's not left out if they wanted to use a war hammer or something.
I chose half damage because acid already does this. Granted it's based on Hit die, 4d4 and then 2d4 next time, so debating if I should do this as well or just make it straight half. This is just meant to be extra damage and not a "condition". Most homebrew rules for this I read made it some condition that gets worse as time goes on. I just want this to be another "type" of damage for non spellcasters.
"If players can do it their enemies can as well" yes I know but my group always has at least 1 healer, if not more, and they almost always have ways to heal themselves. That just how they play. Plus I think it balanced out with the fact let's say the BBEG crits and hits a 103, bleed would be 52, but a simple cure wounds and bleed is gone and get some health back. Gives more reason to heal during combat instead of waiting for people to be knocked unconscious.
Action economy is honestly the biggest concern here. Generally, how I do encounters, I prefer one big bad guy over hordes. That will usually mean I try pick someone who is above their CR level if it's only one enemy. So bleed is double edge meaning if they are successful they can easily waste the enemy turn healing themselves or extra damage.
The reason for the DC save is the higher level you are the higher your hit/DC is. Meaning you're more experienced with your weapon. The more experienced you are the more likely crits would deal more damage because you are more precise. Meaning the harder it would be to stitch a wound from a master swordsman who knew what artery to hit vs a novice swordsman who got lucky and hit the right spot.
Tried to give my best reason for why I did certain things so I would like your thoughts on this new rule.

What You Get:

Program #1

CTC Launches

(to master your launch and funnel sequences)
10X Launches is the first copywriting program fully engineered to speed up the execution and amplify your results of your emails no matter what kind of funnel or launch strategy you’re rolling out.
It’s built not only for best-in-class launch copywriters…
But for coaches, consultants, course creators, and ANYONE who stands to benefit from nailing down their launch and funnel copy faster and with more genuine impact.
IN THIS TOP-SELLING PROGRAM, YOU’LL GET ACCESS TO:

2 “Core” Modules

That will initiate you into the “Coaching The Conversion™ method, and how to leverage a new, more empowering definition of “direct response” that opens up the floodgates to greater intimacy, empathy, and conversions.

5 “Launch” Modules

breaking down every single phase of your launch or funnel in full detail (including some you didn’t even know existed). You’ll learn exactly what’s at play during the Segmentation & Confirmation, Pre-Launch, Launch, Sales and Closing phases of your funnel and how to quickly craft the messaging that coaches your prospect into the final conversion in a powerful, non-sleazy way.

25+ Email Templates

None of that BS “plug’n’play” or “swipe and deploy” stuff that shoehorns your message into lifeless boxes that robs it of all life and power.
Instead, you’ll get FULL breakdowns and walkthroughs of the go-to templates I turn to over-and-over again in 6 and 7-figure launch campaigns.
Meaning, you get to craft your OWN high-converting launch emails in about 25 minutes flat and fire them into ConvertKit, ActiveCampaign (or wtv you’re using) while your coffee’s still hot.

Program #2

CTC Sales Pages

(to master your long form sales page)
This is it.
It’s where the best paid copywriters, coaches and course marketers on the planet earn their keep.
It’s where the conversion either happens or it doesn’t. In cold hard numbers that don’t care how many Clif bars you stress-ate in the process.
It’s where the most admired online business owners transform interest, desire, and engagement and into what you actually want: Sales.
So what is “it”?
It’s your long-form sales page.
And the truth is… most copywriters and marketers avoid long-form sales pages like the plague… treating it like a close-talking lepper with coffee breath… instead of the 24/7 salesperson your sales page – that final step in your marketing funnel – should be.
So why do marketers (and even pro-level copywriters) avoid sales pages?
Because writing a long-form sales page is intimidating AF.
It’s the Night King of the Whitewalker army.
It’s the Beef Wellington on Hell’s Kitchen.
It’s the Lord Voldemort of your marketing funnel – aka the funnel asset that shall not be named.
A long-form sales page is where you’ll spend dozens of hours writing THOUSANDS of words that will either confirm your claim as a top player in your space…
Or will tell you with Gordon-Ramsay-esque candor that your marketing wasn’t as good as your business coach told you it was.
There’s real pressure in that.
But there’s even real-er payoff in being able to do it faster – and more profitably – than anyone else in your industry. A payoff that even affords you the right to make up words like real-er
Confronting, yep? Conquerable. Absolutely.
In CTC Sales Pages, you’ll go through the exact process I’ve used to write over twenty 6 and 7-figure sales pages for the likes of Amy Porterfield, Copyhackers, and many more.

Program #3 & #4

Six Figure Emails & Seven Figure Emails

(for even more email conversion badassery)
Welcome to the “Johnnie Walker Blue” of our email template series.
This is the premium blend for more advanced marketing palates.
All pulled straight from my highest-performing launches for industry titans like Amy Porterfield, Todd Herman, Traffic & Funnels, and Copyhackers.
What you’re getting are 13 advanced email templates that you can use in a pinch when you need to write a standalone sales email, a webinar invitation, a post-webinar replay, downsell, or flash sale.
To be clear, these aren’t those sketchy and lifeless “swipe and deploy” templates you may have seen swimming around the shadier parts of the online marketing cesspool.
These are loose, flexible templates that guide you through deep-dive masterclasses teaching you the advanced psychology behind each one.
Meaning, you actually understand WHY they work, and are fully empowered to engineer them to best serve your audience.

Program #5

Minimum Viable Launch 2.0

(to quickly rock profitable and lean email launches)
We’ve taken the single most impactful part of 10x Launches; the part that countless students have credited with producing game-changing ROI in record time…
And given it a fresh-for-2022 facelift.
Not only will you be getting access to a stack of NEW templates that we’ve added to the stack based on repeated tests and real-world results.
But we’ll be offering you the one-click automation uploads to bring the whole sequence straight into your ActiveCampaign to save you and your team about 5+ hours of heavy-duty integration time.

Program #6

Application Funnel Amplifiers

(for creating powerful pre-call enrollment experiences)
Fact: The enrollment experience begins the moment your prospect books a call.
If you mail it in for those 12-72 hours between when they book the call — and show up to it, you’re missing a golden opportunity to begin coaching the necessary transformations.
In this brand new program, you’ll learn how we to consciously engineering your entire application experience to pre-empt objections, create magnetism, and stack the odds in favor of having a successful enrollment conversation
You’ll get practical answers to:
  • When you should be transparent about your pricing BEFORE a sales call
  • How to strategically structure your application questions in a way that actually coaches your pre-customer into your program (yes, the questions are copy)
  • What to put on your booking confirmation page to create incredible momentum and a “point of no return” into your program
  • What tools and systems we use to create a seamless application and booking experience

Program #7

Next-Level Automation & Optimization Stack

(upcoming and ongoing automation tutorials)
As the CTC Membership evolves, our resident Wizard, Philip Powis will be actively adding a library of importable one-click automations (into ActiveCampaign), leveraged software playbooks, and a running list of the most advanced (and cost effective) tools and systems that he recommends for fast-scaling course and coaching businesses.

2023.06.10 16:43 Armanlex I analyzed the keys given to "European" countries and there's some interesting results!

I'm mostly making this post so that people from those countries lemme know what they think.
Numbers taken from: https://media-center.bandainamcoent.eu/games/tekken/tekken-8/General-Rules-Of-Participation-TEKKEN-8-ClosedTechnicalTest.pdf
Country Total Keys Million pop Keys per Mil
New Zealand 1806 5.1 354

Iraq 484 43 11
Algeria 252 44 6
Egypt 584 109 5
India 3396 1400 2
I'm making the, in my opinion safe, assumption that they give keys to countries proportionally to the number of actual players that they detect play tekken online. So countries with strong offline scenes will get underrepresented, like Pakistan for example.
So, NZ wins. I knew tekken was pretty popular there but is it really THAT popular? Lemme know.
Wtf is Mauritius?? I googled and it's a tiny country to the right of Madagascar. There are some facebook groups for tekken and I found tournaments on youtube so... I guess it's legit....? Lemme know if someone is from there!
My country Greece is surprisingly high, which I was pleasantly surprised by.
And that's it from me. Lemme know what thoughts you have about your own country and how popular tekken is there and how that compares to the number of keys yours received.

2023.06.10 16:38 WillieKeeler96 Line 'Em Up 6/10/23 vs. Royals RHP Brady Singer

A win! In the city connects no less! Let's keep it rolling.
You know the rules. See if you can pick out today's starting lineup before Roch posts it. One point for every correct position in the batting order, and one point for every correct position in the field. (e.g. if your lineup includes 2. Rutschman C, then you get two points if Adley catches and hits in the 2 hole).
Yesterday's winner was u/majahi with a cool 11. Our caps are doffed to you.
Today's pitching matchup is Royals RHP Brady Singer (4-4, 6.45 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, 60.0 IP) vs. Orioles LHP Cole Irvin (0-2, 10.38 ERA, 2.00 WHIP, 13.0 IP). Hopefully Swervin Irvin got his head straight at Norfolk and he can lower that ERA into the double digits today.
Mountcastle riding pine against a LHP yesterday really casts doubt on his place in the lineup. Scuffling is an understatement but is he about to get his lunch ate by a combination of Tony and O'Hearn? Is he destined for a full-time Terry Crowley pinch-hitter role? Let's see what you all think.

2023.06.10 16:30 khoafraelich789 Off-Road Comparison: Ford Bronco Sasquatch vs Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Xtreme Recon

Off-Road Comparison: Ford Bronco Sasquatch vs Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Xtreme Recon
Jeep and Ford take different approaches to 35" off-road packages, each with specific strengths.

https://preview.redd.it/7osf1yj5ad3b1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=2af5f7f65a9ad46e024396fa1fe0cf966ec22533
Elle Alder: Jeepers creepers, look at that Bronco! We’ve got a mightily rubbered matchup today, mates. Before us are the Ford Bronco Badlands Sasquatch and the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Xtreme Recon 392. Riding 35” tires, big suspension, and uhh, ‘comparable power,’ these off-roaders represent quite nearly the most capable of their breed.

Clayton Seams: Nearly, but we are short one carnivore: the Ford Bronco Raptor. The muscled-up Braptor was not available to pair up with the Wrangler 392, so we’re making do with the still-incredibly capable Ford Bronco Badlands Sasquatch. The ‘Squatch can’t match the big Raptor for high-speed off-roading or acceleration, but it’s a closer rival to the Jeep Rubicon — or it would be, were it not for the badge on the Jeep’s hood that says “392”. Those three little numbers make a very big difference.

EA: Very big. Converted from cubic inches, the big Jeep’s V8 measures 6.4 litres displacement. It’s straight off-road muscle, but fortunately for Ford, this comparison is really about the platforms beneath. The arrival of the new Bronco has unquestionably challenged Jeep’s trailhead throne, and the big question is how the two match up on road and trail.

Assessed as equals, these rigs offer similar but distinct skill sets at a similar price point. The V6-equipped 2023 Ford Bronco Sasquatch comes in from $72,189 with destination, or $74,289 as tested. A V6-powered 2023 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Xtreme Recon arrives from $67,480, from $78,495 configured with the good stuff, or a mighty $116,890 for the tested 392 V8 with one-touch power top and all of the goodies.

CS: Mechanically, the largest difference between the two is the front suspension. Jeep famously hangs a solid front axle under the front of every Wrangler and Gladiator, while the Bronco uses an independent front suspension setup. Out back, both use burly live axles and coil springs. Both of these are real 4x4s built largely in the traditional way with body-on-frame construction, two-speed transfer cases, and are specced up with huge 35” tall tires. Underhood, the Bronco can be specced with a turbocharged 2.3-litre inline-four (the one to have), a 2.7-litre twin-turbo V6 like our tester, or the top-dog 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 that you only get in the Raptor version.

EA: Jeep’s modern reputation was built on six naturally aspirated cylinders, and the available 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 — by no means a powerhouse — is plenty of power for the platform. Its 285 hp and 260 lb-ft bounce and crawl with a reputation for reliability and serviceability, making it an entirely respectable path. Standard today is a 2.0-litre turbo-four producing 270 hp and 295 lb-ft, an efficient commuter for the lifestyle crowd but perhaps not to the tastes of NA traditionalists. Manual transmissions are available in some Wrangler trims, but don’t expect to see many of them amid the usual ZF eight-speed automatic configurations.

The 6.4-litre in the Wrangler 392 is the naturally aspirated gasoline powerplant seen in the Ram 2500 and Dodge Scat Packs, tuned here to deliver 470 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. It’s a fun option with a silly sound and an expensive gasoline habit — and also entirely overkill. Accelerating in 4.5 seconds on solid axles and wobbly sidewalls is a skittery affair.

Ford Canada hasn’t dared make any Bronco Raptors available for comparison with the 392, so in the interest of fairness we’ll overlook the Jeep’s obvious power advantage and treat it as a Rubicon Xtreme Recon — a comparatively priced suspension and goodie package available with everything you see here, less the 470-horsepower V8.

CS: While you’re commanding that muscle-car V8 through the trails, you’re sitting in a 2023 cockpit like no other. The exposed door hinges mean the doors swing freely with no stops to easily keep them from hitting cars next to you. There’s more visible painted steel in this interior than a 1985 Toyota Starlet, and the windshield appears almost vertical in front of you. Sure it has Stellantis’s latest uConnect touchscreen system, Alpine premium nine-speaker audio, and heated front seats complete with fetching Rubicon embroidery. But even when compared to the equally rugged Bronco, the Wrangler interior feels like a throwback to an earlier time. The cabin is noticeably narrower than the Bronco, the dash is more vertical, and it still knocks your ankle with its long door harness. It is certainly a Jeep.

Conversely, the Bronco interior manages all of the rugged off-road looks and sacrifices nothing in practicality over a ‘normal’ SUV on the inside. The cabin feels more modern, the touchscreen is much larger than that in the Jeep, and the quality of materials throughout the cabin is superior to the Jeep’s. Despite costing as much as a luxury sedan, both of these SUVs have rubber floors — not carpet — for easier washing after a muddy day on the trails. One gripe would be that the chunky grab handle is located on the dash and not higher on the A-pillar. This makes it easier for passengers to grab during “oh heck” moments, but less helpful for shorter people using it to hoist themselves into the cabin.

EA: Fording is a loss for the Bronco. Ford says that the Sasquatch is good for the same 85-cm (33.5 in.) water crossings that the Jeep is rated for, but that V6 engine leaves its alternator low and vulnerable to rushing water. The Wrangler, meanwhile, mounts its alternators up high and clear of water, and an optional water-diverting intake provides further protection from overenthusiastic gulps — albeit at the compromise of a seriously hefty hood.

That weight shouldn’t be surprising, however, for nothing about either of these rigs is in any way light. Exact figures vary depending on configuration, but equipped with V6s, the Bronco Sasquatch curbs around 5,100 lbs; the Wrangler Xtreme Recon at ~5,200 lbs.

Similar as these curb weights are, the two SUVs carry their weight very differently. The Bronco’s independent front and overall construction feel lighter, whereas the unsprung mass of the Jeep’s solid Dana 210 front axle (an electronically modernized 44 variant) renders a more precarious highway drive and more heaving sensations on the trails. With that handling shortcoming comes confidence in durability, however, and I’d certainly rather have the option of running that solid axle up a log for a backwoods wheel swap than wince at the mercy of a mud-footed jack under the Bronco.

Such weight doesn’t assure invulnerability, however. While both the Sasquatch and Xtreme Recon packages equip these SUVs with underbody shielding in vulnerable areas, it does leave a little to be desired. Hesitant gut impressions of the Bronco’s under-sump shielding and the Jeep’s fuel-tank cladding will hold most stock drivers to the side of caution.

CS: But to get to those trails where fording depth, breakover angle, and tire height matter, you probably have to commute there on pavement. And in that asphalt environment where these vehicles will spend easily 90 per cent of their time, these SUVs are severely out of their element. To be fair, the 392 Wrangler is the first Wrangler that’s ever been fun to drive on the street, thanks specifically to its outrageous muscle-car power and NASCAR soundtrack. But the Wrangler is sketchy to drive at speeds in a way that no other modern ‘car’ is. Those huge meats and solid front axle make for a decidedly wobbly experience on pavement, and drivers must constantly steer a Jeep in its lane on the highway to keep it pointed between the lines. Wind noise is strong at speed, though it faces competition from the droning mud tires and the 392’s dual-exit exhaust. On the plus side, the steering wheel turns easily even with those massive tires, and the ride is cushy-smooth across rough pavement because, of course it is. And that’s before we talk about the fuel economy which is good only when compared to a TRX. Even with gentle driving, you can expect to average around 14 L/100 km at best, and you won’t get that number without a tailwind and some luck.

Compared to the Jeep, the Bronco is a serene experience much in the way that skydiving would feel calm after going over Niagara Falls in a barrel. The independent front suspension allows the Bronco to do novel things like track straight down a highway lane. Although the exhaust is markedly more subdued (granted, the V6 Wrangler is similarly tame), the Bronco’s seats are not as comfy as the Wrangler’s and the ride is a bit harsher over highway bumps. That said, I vastly prefer the Bronco’s stereo, and if I had to take one of these on a road trip, I’d choose the Bronco.

EA: As a single vehicle to live with every day, I must reluctantly agree that the Ford takes it. The Bronco is significantly more ‘car’ than the Jeep, and carries itself along the commute with far shinier technological comforts as well. Nicely appointed and priced to compete directly with the Wrango-dango, it’s simply a better truck for the roads of today.

Still, neither vehicle should be looked to as a commuter. These trucks are large, inefficient, and costly toys better suited to a multi-vehicle family. Relegated to a secondary role for off-road play days, the Jeep is doubtless the hardier, more trustworthy, more capable, and more customizable rig. The Bronco makes trails more accessible, but it’s no old-fashioned, hard-knockin’ Wrangler.

2023.06.10 16:24 hemasuresh Blood Sugar: Understanding the Importance of Balancing Your Glucose Levels

Introduction

Maintaining optimal blood sugar levels is crucial for overall health and well-being. Whether you are managing diabetes, concerned about your risk of developing the condition, or simply interested in leading a healthy lifestyle, understanding blood sugar and how to keep it in balance is essential. In this article, we will explore the significance of blood sugar, the factors that affect it, and provide helpful tips for maintaining stable glucose levels. We will also delve into a natural supplement called Altaí Balance, which has gained attention for its potential to support healthy blood sugar levels.

What is Blood Sugar?

Blood sugar, also known as blood glucose, refers to the amount of sugar present in your bloodstream. It serves as the primary source of energy for your body's cells and is regulated by a hormone called insulin, which is produced by the pancreas. When you consume carbohydrates, they are broken down into glucose, which is then released into the bloodstream. Insulin helps transport this glucose from the bloodstream into your cells, where it can be utilized for energy.

The Importance of Balanced Blood Sugar

Maintaining balanced blood sugar levels is vital for several reasons. Firstly, it provides your body with the energy it needs to function properly. When blood sugar levels are too low, you may experience symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, dizziness, and difficulty concentrating. On the other hand, consistently high blood sugar levels can lead to various health complications, including type 2 diabetes, heart disease, kidney problems, and nerve damage.

Factors Affecting Blood Sugar Levels

Several factors can impact your blood sugar levels. These include:

Diet

The food you consume plays a significant role in determining your blood sugar levels. Foods that are high in refined carbohydrates and sugars, such as sugary beverages, white bread, and pastries, can cause a rapid spike in blood sugar levels. On the other hand, foods rich in fiber, healthy fats, and protein have a slower and steadier effect on blood sugar, promoting better glucose control.

Physical Activity

Regular exercise has numerous benefits, including helping to regulate blood sugar levels. Physical activity stimulates your muscles to utilize glucose for energy, which can lower blood sugar levels. Additionally, exercise enhances insulin sensitivity, allowing your cells to more effectively absorb glucose from the bloodstream.

Stress

Chronic stress can impact blood sugar levels. When you are stressed, your body releases stress hormones like cortisol, which can cause an increase in blood sugar levels. Finding healthy ways to manage stress, such as through relaxation techniques, exercise, or engaging in hobbies, can help keep your blood sugar in check.

Sleep

Lack of sleep or poor sleep quality can affect insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism. It is important to prioritize adequate sleep to support overall health, including blood sugar control.

Tips for Maintaining Balanced Blood Sugar Levels

Here are some practical tips to help you maintain balanced blood sugar levels:
  1. Eat a well-balanced diet: Include a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats in your meals. Limit your intake of processed foods and sugary snacks.
  2. Watch your portion sizes: Be mindful of the quantity of food you consume, as portion control is crucial for managing blood sugar levels.
  3. Be consistent with meal timings: Try to establish regular meal times and avoid skipping meals to help stabilize blood sugar throughout the day.
  4. Stay hydrated: Drinking an adequate amount of water helps maintain proper hydration and supports optimal blood sugar levels.
  5. Engage in regular physical activity: Incorporate exercise into your routine, aiming for a combination of cardiovascular exercises and strength training.
  6. Manage stress levels: Find healthy ways to cope with stress, such as practicing mindfulness, engaging in relaxation techniques, or seeking support from loved ones.
  7. Get enough sleep: Prioritize quality sleep by establishing a consistent sleep schedule and creating a conducive sleep environment.

Altaí Balance: A Natural Supplement for Blood Sugar Support

When it comes to maintaining healthy blood sugar levels, some individuals may benefit from the use of natural supplements. Altaí Balance is a dietary supplement that has gained attention for its potential to support balanced blood sugar levels. It is formulated with a blend of natural ingredients, including herbs, vitamins, and minerals that are known for their potential to support glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity.
Altaí Balance contains ingredients such as cinnamon bark, bitter melon, licorice root, and alpha-lipoic acid, which have been traditionally used for their potential blood sugar-regulating properties. However, it is important to note that individual results may vary, and it is always recommended to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new dietary supplement.

Conclusion

Maintaining balanced blood sugar levels is essential for overall health and well-being. By adopting a healthy lifestyle, including a nutritious diet, regular exercise, stress management, and adequate sleep, you can support optimal blood sugar control. Natural supplements like Altaí Balance may also provide additional support, but it is crucial to consult with a healthcare professional before incorporating them into your routine. Take charge of your health by prioritizing blood sugar balance and enjoy the benefits of a healthier life.

2023.06.10 16:13 tolkienfan2759 Is it racist, to try to eliminate racism by raising the marriage rate between so called white guys and so called black women?

I'm not sure but I think the reason some people think it's racist is, they hear the plan (outlined below) and they say to themselves "these people want to eliminate white people." But it's not white people the plan seeks to eliminate. In fact, it eliminates no people at all, by any means whatever. Its goal, instead, is to eliminate the fantasy we call whiteness. To me that's a very different thing. Although I can see how people might disagree.
Now, I previously asked if this plan was eugenics, and most of the responses were way more concerned with how specifically we would raise that marriage rate than they were about whether it was eugenics or not. People were worried that the plan would involve coercing or manipulating people into marriage.
And so I'll start with a brief description of how to raise the marriage rate between so called white guys and so called black women (I say so called because race is largely a fantasy). Without forcing anyone to do anything.
Then I'll give a new conception of racism, one that I think clarifies everything very usefully, hopefully bringing the temperature down about racism and allowing us to discuss it more calmly and clearly.
Then I'll restate the question, just in case those who read that far forget what I've asked.
And finally (assuming some of you may be interested) I'll give a bunch of objections I've heard previously, to a plan like this, and my responses to those objections. It's possible, among other things, that this plan will destroy the Democratic Party as we know it. Perhaps you see that as a good thing. Please feel free to select an objection to the plan, that you like, and add arguments in its favor or better rebuttals than I can provide.
I will not be able to respond immediately, but I promise to try to get to all thoughtful responses within 24 hours.
And that's how the post is organized. Here we go.
How to Raise That Marriage Rate
I've known for a long time that the marriage rate, between so called white guys and so called black women, was extraordinarily low. So called black girls learn this at the age of 7 or 8. It didn't occur to me until recently that that's really the key to eliminating racism.
You see, we seem to have made a lot of progress, against racism, over the decades. We're much less likely to have a race riot than we once were, we don't hang people from trees any more, we've halfway integrated the schools, we've elected a black president. On the surface it doesn't look nearly as bad as it used to.
But then if you look at that marriage rate, you discover that we've made much less progress than it appears. In 1960 that marriage rate was about 6 per 10,000. That is, of every 10,000 married so called white guys, 6 were married to so called black women. By 1998 that rate had risen to 2 per 1000. The colorblind rate would be 120 per 1000. So if you take that discrepancy as a measure of our actual level (as opposed to an apparent level) of racism, you find that we are at about 98% of our capacity for racism. Not individually: as a people. And all that progress we've made is only progress against the appearance of racism. Raising that marriage rate is the key hurdle, in beginning to make real progress.
And all we really have to do, to raise the marriage rate between so called white guys and so called black women, is begin telling the truth. Specifically there is one key fact of which everyone needs to become aware, and it is this: if while you're growing up you one day discover that you are unable or unwilling to fall in love with, and marry, a so called black woman, then your heart is broken. Your heart is not working properly. And you need to fix that.
The study of psychology is pretty clear on this: people work on their hearts, and make progress, all their lives. They can do this. And they will. If we tell them it's important to do so. If they do work on their hearts, and if they do raise that marriage rate, we will gradually become one people. Racism will end. No races: no racism. (Well, it's not QUITE that simple, but that's the gist. The actual change will be the destruction of the marriage barrier, without which racism will not be possible. Anything that looks like racism, without a marriage barrier, is just ethnic prejudice.)
So that's the plan. That's how to raise that marriage rate and, by so doing, eliminate racism.
What Racism Really Is
A lot of people seem to think racism is basically an individual thing. Their tactic, in eliminating racism, is to hunt down and re-educate (or take the livings of, or both) marginally plausible, identifiable so called racists. The data is in, unfortunately, and this is an error. We've been doing it long enough that if it was going to work it would have worked before now.
You see, that marriage rate, if this tactic were working, would be much higher. And so racism isn't an individual thing, it's a group thing. It's not a characteristic of individuals, but of a society. Certain individuals may have verbalized and made conscious their involvement with group racism, turning themselves into what we think of as bigots, and others may not have, but racism itself is expressed primarily in social preferences measured over millions of interactions by millions of people. And so it doesn't matter how many individuals you penalize for it, or re-educate, or both, the group problem will persist and continue to erupt in individual symptoms. So it's important to stop penalizing and re-educating people, because it doesn't work. Instead we need to show them how to fix it (as detailed above).
And the good news is, we're not morally guilty of racism. It isn't something we did. We didn't invent it or install it; we inherited it. And it didn't come with a user manual, to tell us where the switch is, if we feel like turning it off. We don't have to apologize for it, any more than so called black people have to apologize for having darker skin. We, we Americans, we were born this way. We were born with racism as a characteristic of our society.
Now, that doesn't mean that once someone shows us the switch, and shows us how to turn it off, we shouldn't do that. It's a harmful practice, deeply insulting to many whom we like to think we think of (I know, it's complicated) as members of our society, and it would be a glorious thing to finally defeat it. Has any other people actually eliminated racism without eliminating the subject people? I'm going to go out on a limb here: Never. It would be a world historical first. And a real step towards making America great again. I hope you all will see that this plan, as outlined above, will eliminate racism.
I deal with a number of objections below. But the basic question is: is this a racist idea?
As I said above, I won't be able to respond immediately, but I promise to try to get to all thoughtful responses within 24 hours (assuming the automod doesn't prevent publication and I have to appeal to the mods to get them to re-instate the post at some indeterminate time). And I thank you so much for your patience.
Let me just add that the responses to my first question in the sister sub, about whether this plan was eugenics or not, were so interesting and thoughtful, I was just floored. I sent this plan to 60 or 70 sociologists with an interest in race, and got zero thoughtful responses. I mean, not a ONE. I'm starting to think you all are each individually smarter than most, if not all, university professors of sociology who have a focus on race, all put together. Thank you again.
OBJECTIONS
Objection 1: It's Eugenics
There are a couple of different responses to this objection. The first is that if the intent was to affect our genetic portrait it might be, but it's not. The intent is to destroy the hallucination that is known as race.
The second response is: what we're doing NOW is eugenics. When so called white guys fail to fall in love with, and marry, so called black women, that is practical, popular eugenics. Sure, it's subconscious: that doesn't mean it's not purposeful. This is an anti eugenics plan.
The third response is: eugenics is a carefully applied genetic program designed to weed out undesirable genetic characteristics or improve or add desirable ones. Animal husbandry for humans. This is a plan to expand the pool of candidates from which so called white guys select marriage partners. To give people more choices, not less. That's actually kind of the opposite of eugenics.
Objection 2: It's Not Gonna Work
This objection is that regardless of whether raising that marriage rate is racism, or eugenics, or wtf, it's not gonna work, because people are perfectly capable of being racist against themselves.
This is an argument I've made myself and believe in strongly, and so it's troubling to have to disavow it, but in fact I don't think it's necessarily true. Do people discriminate against themselves, within their group, based on characteristics like skin color? Sure. Is that automatically and in every case racism? Hmm.
The problem, with the idea that within-group discrimination is racism, is that the heart and soul of racism is that marriage barrier. Words that sound racist, behavior that appears racist, are words or behavior that reference or evoke that marriage barrier. That social insult. This is why so called white people can be racist against so called black people, but so called black people can't do the same thing the other way: because there's no similar social insult that so called black people can evoke or reference by their words or actions. That marriage barrier is what makes racism so much nastier than ethnic prejudice.
And if the marriage barrier is gone, the social insult will also be gone, and any discrimination that persists will lack the force that makes racism the unique evil that it is. We will have eliminated racism, not by curing racists, but by eliminating the insult.
And so it is too gonna work, so there.
Objection 3: Are You Calling Me a Racist?
(embarrassed cough) No. I'm really not calling anyone a racist. Racism, as I see it, is an emergent property of the group (not individuals) - but it emerges from individual decisions, none of which individually are racist, but all of which together give rise to racism. And in fact, as outlined above, focusing on individual racism, trying to fix individual racism, is counterproductive, because it gives us the false sense of accomplishment that has contributed so much to our failure to notice the real racism that pervades our society.
It's kind of like the movie The Matrix. The theme of this movie is that we're all just hallucinating the reality we experience, while in reality aliens are using us for their own vile purposes. With racism, we're all hallucinating that race is a reality, when in actual reality, race has no significance whatever.
And it's not our fault. It's really not. None of us wrote, directed, or star in the movie. But we're all watching it. And unfortunately only some of us have the ability to turn around and find the switch, on the projector, and flip it off. That's what needs to happen. We need to show so called white guys the switch and get them to flip the movie off. Again, as outlined above.
Objection 4: Manipulating People Into Marriage is Just Wrong
More wrong than racism? I would hope not. I would hope that the chance to make progress, at very little cost, on what has seemed to be a very difficult problem, would be attractive. I mean, we don't need a whole new bureaucracy, or a government program to do this, we don't have to split the country up into pieces, no one has to suffer or die... although there are some mostly so called white people (not many) who will flat upchuck in their Wheaties when they hear the plan. That is an emotional reaction. They'll get over it.
Secondly, what we're doing right now is manipulating people OUT of interracial marriages. Subconsciously, of course, and you only see it when you look at the bulk statistics - but it is manipulation nonetheless. If manipulation is wrong, well, we're wrong right now. I don't think that's going to change. Manipulation - in marriages and out of them - is something societies do. Something people do.
Thirdly, when people object to manipulating people into marriage, they're generally speaking of individual manipulations toward specific marriages. This plan is the opposite of trying to limit people's choices. This plan is an attempt to expand the range of people from which so called white guys can and will select marriage partners. Not so good for the so called white women who have benefited from that reduced gene pool - but they will have an expanded gene pool of their own to draw from, which ought to make up for it.
Objection 5: It's Social Engineering
I would say that every time we pass a law we do social engineering. You can't stop people committing murder - but you can try to make it costly to do so. That's social engineering. And again, which is worse: social engineering, or racism? I would hope racism.
Objection 6: It's Genocide
This is kind of the "it's racist, to destroy white people" argument in reverse: this argument is that flooding the so called black population with so called white genes will destroy the black population. To me this is racism. The argument's basis, I think, is the idea that each so called race has some mystical essence that must not be destroyed. That seems to me to be a racist argument. There is no pure-blooded anything. Every time you have sex you mix blood. Get over it.
Objection 7: You Want Everyone to Have Indiscriminate Sex
Someone posted a clip from the movie Bulworth, in which some wacko said the answer to racism was for everyone to just fuck everyone else indiscriminately. No, no, no, and no. In fact: no. This is not a plan to raise the rate of indiscriminate sex. This is a plan to raise the marriage rate. Focus, people! lol
Objection 8: Interracial Marriage is On the Rise Anyway
This is the kind of argument you get from people who read and value Pew Research articles. Their point is that if it's all getting better and better anyway, why not just watch TV? But Pew Research researchers seem to think anti-Hispanic prejudice is racism, anti-Asian prejudice is racism, and anti-anything prejudice is racism. Thus they define Asians and white Hispanics and god knows how many others as separate races, and draw their weird conclusions pretty much at random. But that marriage barrier is a big deal. Without a marriage barrier, it's not racism. And I've seen no evidence that Pew Research researchers have even realized this, much less that they care. (My sense is that Pew Research exists primarily to find evidence to support Democratic talking points, but who knows.) Of course if you conflate people for whom there is a marriage barrier with people for whom there isn't, your results are going to be meaningless. That is what Pew Research has done, and I recommend you stay away from their stuff.
Objection 9: It Will Destroy the Democratic Party as We Know It
This is a little harder to answer, because I think it's true. As soon as it becomes clear that our country is actually on track to eliminate racism, millions of so called black voters will suddenly discover that conservatism isn't really such a dumb idea after all, and they will vacate the Democratic Party. There will be very little left, when they go. Not all will mourn.
Objection 10: It Will Destroy the Black Community
This too is a hard objection to answer. Once we're all so called black, what will be left of the so called black community? How will they recognize one another? They won't. We'll be them. It will be a big change. Toni Morrison's book Sula seems to indicate that there are so called black people who won't shed too many tears, at this prospect, and so I hope it won't be too wrenching for them. I hope that eliminating that marriage barrier will be a fair payment for whatever they lose, in terms of community.
Objection 11: How Dare We?
How dare we make such changes to the so called black community, without getting their consent first? My answer is, this whole country has been working on the problem of racism for a long enough time that I think we all agree it's time we actually did something about it. Getting the consent of the so called black community would require establishing a national so called black congress, for that purpose, and even then that congress would have only as much legitimacy as our current Federal Congress does, which is to say, not much at all. I for one am not prepared to put in that kind of energy and effort on it for so little return. If they want to riot to prevent the elimination of racism, that'd be something new. That'd be a sight worth seeing. I think if they want to stop it bad enough, they'll find a way to make their voices heard.
Objection 12: It's Unnecessary
This objection goes as follows. We've dramatically lowered the probability of having a race riot. We don't hang grandma from a tree anymore. We've halfway integrated the schools. We've elected a black president. What the heck else can we do? We've made a LOT of PROGRESS. There's no need.
And I really covered this up above. My answer is, we've made a lot of progress against the APPEARANCE of racism. The thing itself, not so much. If that marriage rate had been steadily declining, and was at 30% or 50% of its colorblind ratio, I couldn't plausibly make this argument. That would be real progress against real racism. But it's not declining. (Well it is, but so slowly that it will take over 15,000 years to get to colorblind... if nothing else happens in the meantime. Ha. Ha.) It is TWO ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE away from colorblind. People that work with numbers know, you can't wave off that kind of discrepancy with creative hallucinations about cultural and economic differences. And as I've said before, it's that marriage barrier that is the real heart of racism. That's what we need to make progress against. Anything else is just sound and wind.
Well, that's it. Questions, comments, or remarks, ladies and gentlemen? Honk if you got to the end...
