Lebarnum looked down at the report before him.
He was one of many races in the megacity, a plethora of beings with multitudes of different affinities and talents. He always did his best to be inclusive in the workforce that he employed- not, as some assumed, because of some mistaken bid for status, but instead due to the fact that he had simply found some beings more suitable to certain tasks than others.
When he’d hired Siddqua on the manufacturing line, his competitors had cried folly; yet production was up. After bringing on Mendlo in the marketing department as replacement for the previous expert, some had assumed it to be some sort of pity ploy- but suddenly peer to peer recommendation had skyrocketed.
The human before him had been his latest gamble.
Her name was Loyra, a classic example of her species. The conversation they’d had when she interviewed had sold him and she’d come to work for them the very next day. She even insisted on working six whole hours per day!
Within the week, she had done away with the decades-old clutter in the main office and converted the majority of their files to a tactile filing system, perfect for him and his habits. She had smoothed over some rocky customer relations, made several small purchases that went towards heightening employee enjoyment, and in doing so had increased productivity by some twenty percent. It was absurd.
So when she had come into his office this morning and dropped off this estimate for a total restructuring of the system, Lebarnum nearly signed off on it the moment it hit the desk. But one thing kept his hand from his stylus.
“Loyra,” he began, unsure of how to breach the topic, “Were you some sort of manager at your previous position? If it’s legal for me to ask, that is. You need not answer if you don’t want to.”
Loyra’s mouth parted slightly and she brushed a bit of her hair back about her ear. “Well, it is illegal, but I don’t mind answering. I wasn’t a manager- never been one, but I suppose I would like to.”
Lebarnum gestured at the proposal on his desk. “How did you learn to do all this? I’ve been working this job since the previous owner passed it to me some sixty years ago. Why is it you know how to optimize so well? What taught you?”
Loyra looked up and to the side and pursed her lips.

“I’ve worked as a maid, a nanny, a teacher- but I decided that wasn’t for me- then went to university while working in hospitality. Once I got my degree, I worked in marketing, then as a financial advisor, and my last job was as a dental assistant. I probably missed a few though.”
Lebarnum gaped at her. “That is… several lifetimes worth of experience. Do humans live very long? Were the jobs all in this district as well?”
Loyra chuckled and waved her hand dismissively. “Oh no, no. We don’t live that long at all compared to you lot. I came from off planet, this is the third District I’ve lived in. I like it very much- think I might stay.”
Lebarnum slumped back in his seat, mind whirling. “How many different places have you lived in?”
“Uhm, nine or ten, I suppose.”
“And how old are you, if you don’t mind me asking?”
“Thirty-eight. I’m a bit of an old maid, but that suits me just fine.”
Lebarnum didn’t spare processing power to figure out her lingo. Discounting the human’s trial period- which ended at, say, fourteen to sixteen years of age- that put Loyra as having shifted through at least nine living spaces and at least seven jobs, for a tentative average of a different job every three or so years and different living situation every two and a half.

Lebarnum felt dizzy.
“Isn’t that exhausting? Can’t you just go to the Great Directory and pick one?”
“Oh, I could do that if I wanted- but I don’t want to. I like seeing different places and doing different things. It’s almost like a brand new lifetime when I change, with new places, new people, new work, new me.”
Lebarnum felt a distinct sense of vertigo. He’d been living in the same place and working the same job for so long that he’d even forgotten how old he was. He couldn’t imagine living a different life, though he knew it was possible.
He motioned weakly at the proposal. “And this? How did this come about?”
Loyra nodded excitedly. “Well, obviously I can clean, and being a maid let me see a lot of different file storage systems. When I was a nanny I brushed up on a lot of the behavioural patterns of the most commonly encountered species, while my teaching experience has honestly made me a bit… critical of how some employers teach their employees. I learned how to people-please and brand in marketing- the financial advisory should be fairly obvious- and when I was a dental assistant I learned a lot about streamlining different processes.”
She rolled both her hands about her head. “So, I figured that with permission, I’d take everything I’ve learned and make the place a little nicer. I like it here in this district, and the people here are great. Why not try to make the place better?”
Lebarnum sat for a moment, silent.
Then for another moment.
Then another.
Loyra shifted, uncomfortable. “Did I say something wrong?”
Lebarnum snapped out of his calculations. Regardless of what occurred here and now, his company was secure; nothing short of a planetwide quarantine for several years would threaten it. If he was known for anything by those in his field, it was his adventurous taste in employees and willingness to try new things.
Lebarnum couldn’t bear to pass up the opportunity.
“Loyra, would you like to be promoted to manager?”
Her eyes grew wide.
“What? I thought you didn’t have one?”
“I have been made aware of my company’s shortcomings. Would you like to be promoted? It comes with a pay raise, and a secretary to fulfill your old position’s duties.”
Now it was her turn to gape. “I- I suppose so, yes. Yes, that would be great actually.”
Lebarnum nodded, then leaned down and signed off on the proposal. “You can expect the paperwork next week, and your input will be required for hiring the new secretary. Please do everything you can to make this company better.”
Loyra took the proposal back and held it to her chest, beaming. “Thank you very much, Lebarnum. I’ll do my best.”
He asked one more question as she turned to leave his office.
“How did you do it, Loyra? Having so many different lives, moving to so many different places?”
She smiled, halfway out the door. “The hardest part is leaving- after that, it’s just living. If you ever move to another planet with only a suitcase, you’ll know what I mean.”
Lebarnum muted his calls for the next half hour so he would have silence in which to think.
He looked over at a picture that had been on the office wall for as long as he could remember. It was a detailed rendition of a moon, one of the architectural wonders of the Varium. Built from the inside out as a massive scientific experiment, it was currently a museum destination where one could spend years looking over the various scientific advances from hundreds of different races.
Beneath it were words that had carried him through years- no, decades- of work.
“It is only impossible until it is done.”
Lebarnum thought of the suitcase in the storage unit of his apartment, untouched since purchasing it all those years ago.
Maybe it was time for a little vacation.

The dynasty streets have been wild. So I'd like to share my MIN RBs take. 

It appears the time has finally come for Dalvin Cook to part ways with the Minnesota Vikings. This is the opportunity fans of Alexander Mattison have been waiting for. Is this when Alexander Mattison will shine, or is he being set up to disappoint? Let’s dive in. 👇 (Heads up, this is more dynasty centric, but most points still apply to all formats)
I feel there are FIVE talking points here for the Alexander Mattison (& Dalvin Cook) Situation:

"KOC is an offensive mastermind who will use a workhorse back for his high-powered offense."
KOC Offenses RB Usage:
▪️ 2019: Adrian Peterson led (211 ATT) with Chris Thompson as the clear receiving back.
▪️ 2020: Full Blown 3-Headed Committee ➡️ Cam Akers, Darrell Henderson Jr. & Malcolm Brown all had 100-145 ATT, with Malcom Brown narrowly leading the receiving split.
▪️ 2021-2022: Had an arguably top-5 RB talent in the entire NFL & decided to heavily feature him. Dalvin Cook was one of just 2 RBs with >1000 yards over the last 4 seasons (6,423 scrimmage yards & 46 TDs).
There is zero indication that KOC loves a workhorse, in my opinion. The KOC sample since 2019 tells me he is excellent at game-planning based on what he must work with.
🔸 Leaguewide RB Usage 🔸
"Look at the Vikings RB Depth Chart. He will get 70% of the snaps!"
Let's look at snap shares:
▪️ There were only *checks notes* FOUR RBs who saw >70% of the snaps last season. Dalvin Cook was the 4th.
▪️ Only 12 RBs played >60% of snaps.
▪️ Only 19 RBs played >55% of snaps.
▪️ Below 55% of snaps is a basically a full-on committee.
Alexander Mattison played 25% of the snaps last season. To project an RB1 season, you're expecting, at minimum, a 30% increase in snaps OR an uber efficient breakout/TD outlie>=15% team target share.
The outlier backs, who went nuclear after an elite RB was phased out were Austin Ekeler (56% snaps) & Tony Pollard (49% snaps). Not that YPC tells the full story, but I'd like my rotation back that I'm projecting to come in & have outlier efficiency to get more than 4YPC. Mattison is coming off his lowest career marks in YPT, YPC & total rush ATT in a season.
Expect Ty Chandler (speed) & DeWayne McBride (pounder) to be involved. I'm not as concerned for Kene Nwangwu (ST). There's also still time to sign a cheap vet FA.
🔹 The Power of Preparation (Sample Size Meets Data Extrapolation) 🔹
"Every time Alexander Mattison has been the Vikings lead back, he was an RB1."
You'd be correct; he was. As a matter of fact, he got 21PPG (0.5PPR) in games with >50% snaps.
We CANNOT extrapolate data as a main argument point from a *checks notes* 5 game sample size.
There is a HUGE difference between a team using a player as an impromptu plug whilst Plan A is either missing a sole game or gets injured during a game. We cannot take that usage and imply it would be the same with a full off-season to craft a gameplan around what you have. I will not overlook the power of preparation.
In games where D'Ernest Johnson saw >8 ATT, he averaged 116 yards and >19PPG (0.5PPR). If Johnson found himself in a murky backfield and I suggested an RB1 finish was within his range of outcomes, you'd call me crazy! But I thought we could extrapolate a 4-5 game sample size?
I'm not saying Johnson is as talented as Mattison, but I am suggesting you cannot use the ~20PPG on a limited sample size as an argument for a 17-game season. Johnson was a product of forced usage, while Nick Chubb/Kareem Hunt were out, and Mattison was no different with Dalvin Cook.
🔸 The Dynasty Price Point 🔸
"RB18 is cheap for a young, potential RB1. Dalvin Cook is old & washed."
An RB18 KTC dynasty price tag is fascinating. His Underdog ADP since Dalvin Cook's most recent updates is RB20. We can debate Rb20 for redraft, but RB18 for dynasty?? Let me read you players Mattison is close to or greater than on Keep Trade Cut for Superflex:
▪️ Late 1st
▪️ B. Aiyuk, C. Kirk, D. Johnson, M. Brown, C. Godwin, A. Cooper, C. Ridley, R. Bateman

Dalvin Cook, who admittedly should be closer to a mid/late RB2 with a decreased snap share in a new home, is RB32 on KTC (dynasty) & RB23 on Underdog (redraft). For a back with over 6,400 total scrimmage yards over the last 4 seasons, I'm into that price. I'll acknowledge we saw a less efficient Dalvin in 2022, but this entry cost is minimal. I am very content with Dalvin as my 3rd Rb on roster. He & Aaron Jones are fun buys for me when these are players around or greater than them in market:

If there is true merit to a significant move happening, get ahead of the curve. Dalvin Cook rumors have been going on for over a month.
This isn't always buying the big name to sell on newfound hype but could be a reason to buy into the periphery assets for a quick little ROI. Ty Chandler & DeWayne McBride are 2 examples outside of Alexander Mattison.
Mattison was valued around an early 3rd rookie pick. The writing had been on the wall for Dalvin Cook. If you felt there was merit, meeting in the middle of the price tag at the time and your projection of what he'd sell for in the event things come true, was a solid play. Mattison in deals during rookie drafts, paying anything in equal value ~ late 2nd / early 3rd was a solid bet. Making moves before the headline leads a manager in every league to add the topical player to the trade block.

RD2L EU is kicking off its 27th Season! This season will run from the end of June to September, and sign-ups are closing on Tuesday13th June for our WED and SUN divisions.
What is RD2L EU?
RD2L is a community based amateur league and has been providing varied Dota 2 tournaments for the past 7-8 years. We have a lot of experience offering regular competitive captains mode seasons and one day cups for individual players (not pre-made teams) of all skill levels. It's a great way to experience organised and competitive Dota 2 without the heavy time commitments and scheduling uncertainty involved in forming a team for a typical league.
How do I join?
First of all, join the RD2L EU discord (link below), meet the community and have a look at our announcements for further information. If you have any questions we have several staff who are happy to help you, as well as an active community of regular players. To play in a season all you have to do is sign up as a player with your MMR and role preference, additionally you can sign up as captain. All players are placed in a draft pool from which captains will pick to form teams. You’ll likely be placed with a team of people you haven’t met before, and will have the chance to make new friends as you practise and play together over the season. We are enforcing signups under the new glicko system, so you will have to have gotten a new MMR after 7.33.
How does the season work?
Captains will be responsible for drafting their teams from the player pool. After teams are drafted, a round robin group stage, which can take 6-8 weeks depending on the amount of signups, with a captains mode Bo2 series each week. All game series will start at 8pm CEST (please note game times move with daylight savings). Once the group stage is over the top teams progress into playoffs, seeded by groupstage standing, leading up to a grand final to crown the ultimate winners! All playoff series will be Bo3, also starting at 8pm CEST.
What's the difference between WED and SUN league?
The day you play! The main difference is how teams are formed; Wednesday league is a mixed MMR format that gets drafted much like the NFL draft picks, whereas our Sunday league is a divisions based format that generally means players of similar skill level are matched up against each other.
Why should I play RD2L?

• Balanced matches. By drafting teams similar to fantasy football, teams tend to be generally even in overall player skill

I'm a white man and I've seen a lot of tiktoks lately by woc venting that they are not being "chosen" by (often white) men who are "choosing" white women instead.
I try to approach everything with an open mind and let people be the experts of their own experiences as to not invalidate their struggles but I think this one I'm having trouble with. When it comes to who we choose to date, I think a social justice / systemic racism angle can be appropriate for assessing population trends but it's wrong to apply those standards to specific individuals. The long and short of it is, however harsh this may sound, if the man who you had a crush on got with a white woman instead then you need to simply accept that and move on. It may have had nothing or everything to do with your race but we can't know.
As a short man, I liken it a little to height preference among women. I understand that being tall is attractive and tall men tend to do better in the dating scene. Sometimes it's frustrating and while I know that I would have more options were I tall, I can hardly attribute specific dating failures to my height. Even more importantly, it would be wrong to villyfy the women who reject me and somehow call them immoral for preferring men who are taller (and in their eyes more attractive or more their preference) and it would also be wrong to villyfy the men who are more attractive than me. This is a hard pill to swallow as a man and I've gotten down about my body image at times, but overall I'm a confident individual and looking back over my life, I've managed to be ok.
And there lies the problem. I find that the discussion of woc dating struggles is often very much centered on the men being "wrong" for getting with a white woman and sometimes even about bringing down the white women. Imo, the discussion should be centered on beauty standards, systemic racism and dating culture.
Dating culture in particular is an issue atm I believe. We see all sorts of skewed app data suggesting that the top 80% of women only swipe on the top 10% of men. We also see data suggesting that black women are the least swiped on and East Asian women the most. Conversely, white men are the most swiped and East Asian men the least.
However, I don't believe these trends are having as great of an impact as they might suggest. Black women and East Asian men are not perpetually single. WMAF marriage is common, yes, but I don't believe the white women are all married / in long term relationships and all the woc are single. Somehow, people are still finding each other.
I believe that this frustration may largely be due to the dating culture that has arisen from app-based dating. When we are presented with infinite options and filters, we have the illusion of choice and will become more stringent in our preferences. In real life, however, I believe that we don't all exclusively date the image we have in our heads of what our ideal partner looks like. In fact, I'd bet that most people never end up with their "ideal" partner and even end up happier for it, as choosing a partner from superficial characteristics or ideals is not the key to a healthy relationship.
The language is also bothering me a little but maybe it's a distraction: the idea that the men are "choosing" white women over woc implies it is a more conscious choice than it probably is. I don't believe men are generally surrounded by a group of women all fighting for his attention while he sits back and and consciously ranks all of them and picks the "best" one. Perhaps for the top 10% attractive men and women their dating strategies might look something like this only because so many people will think they're hot, but for the rest of us, the 90% I don't think it's true.
It's also implying that women, especially woc, lack agency in finding a partner and I don't think that's fully true. I understand dating still isn't fully safe for women but women can do better than sitting around and waiting for a hot guy to "choose" them. Women can ask the man out. Women can take the initiative to at least talk to a large number of men if they choose and see which ones bite. I don't think a world where men are sitting back and just "choosing" women is real, or an ideal, even if the choosing appears to be more racially fair.
Finally, I this might be a very bad take. Maybe all of what I've said is. But is it possible that women are just horrible at taking rejection? Men generally are the pursuers in modern dating and we need to learn to take rejection. It's not easy. And the messaging we send towards men is to be resilient, not take it personally, keep trying and you will find the one. It's about game and confidence, and about introspection and understanding your strengths and weaknesses and working on yourself, not blaming the women who rejected you or the men who have an easier time dating than you.
I just don't believe that we send similar messaging to women and while men still have a large learning curve to overcome with dating, is it possible that women do as well? I don't believe we should racially gaslight. It's valid and fine to acknowledge that your race is possibly holding you back in dating. But I think teaching women to handle rejection the way we're teaching men to might be a step in the right direction. I wonder this because when I see women complaining about rejection, it comes across with the same sort of entitlement as I often see in men who do the same. The difference is that we aren't helping our female friends in the right way in my opinion and instead we are just enabling the idea that they are perfect and it's society and men who are at fault because they got rejected.
Sorry if my take is out of touch. I'm here to learn. I consider myself on the right side of most issues nowadays but I find it difficult to simply side with the woc on this one when it comes to dating. I believe that even in a fully racially equal society we will still see bias towards same - race couples as cultural background, values and upbringing will still play a part. And if people prefer to date within their race for those reasons, black, Asian or white people, I think it's fine and valid.
I know I wrote a lot but I just intend to give an insight to my thought processes as perhaps that way it's easier for a reader to say "here is where you are thinking wrong, and I think you should interpret it this way instead". I don't mean to be preachy or just spew my opinion or anything.

Just to clarify before I start: this is MY take/Opinion as a level 89 Barbarian. I have tried many different builds on him and many variations of specific builds so I think I do have some skin in the game at this point when specifically talking about Barb.
So it's fair to say that of the 5 classes Barbarian is the dedicated fighter. Which is good because every class based game no mater how vanilla should have at the very least one class that's dedicated to that roll: DPS with a bit of tankiness and survivability.
However, I have a major theory about Barb.I don't believe the Devs really thought out how he would fit into the game. Sure the arsenal system is really interesting but that doesn't really fit the theme of a Barbarian who's typically an hammer or axe wielding fighter not really a martial expert. There's a LOT of tank perks and passives but the issue THERE is none of his early skills or even later skills have any real tank support. And no Frenzy having damage reduction doesn't make him a tank; A tank is supposed to more of a frontliner who focuses on keeping control over the frontline not a maniac who W + M1s into the enemy team and "attempts" to pull aggro with a single taunt ability. However, the amount of tank based mid-tree perks and passives he gets feels out of place. His survivability should come from either high HP values, personal damage reduction, and sustain through attacking but the only sustain he has built in is using shouts with the healing passive and Iron Skin with the healing modifier: that's it. That's not very good for a fighter. And since those are the ONLY forms of sustain he has he can't go into the Frenzy lifesteal Olaf from LOL fantasy. The only GOOD builds for Barbarian late game are: Thorn builds using HOL or Thorn builds using Whirlwind and that's because those two skills heavily rely on his best three skills anyway those being Challenging, Rally, and Warcry (also berserk but that totally fits his theme so I wont complain about that... right now). Sure as a build crafter I have my Arsenal Builds, my fun duel wield Frenzy build, my flay/rupture tanky bleed build... etc. But those builds are SO ineffient compared to the prior two mentioned ones. And I don't mean like a 10 percent difference in effiency (if I had to ballpark a number) I mean it's night and DAY compared to those builds just how disproportionate they are and I think it circles back to my original theory:The devs didn't know how to make barbarian. They tried to fit 5 gimicks into this guy and most if not all just don't really stick the landing when you get into t4 content. He can't be a berserker because he has no good sustain without running shouts (which you have to run 2 so you can keep your healing going so you don't get dumpstered immediately), you HAVE to run Berserk ultimate or else your dps is just horrible, you prolly need to run some form of CC so stomp is your typical go to there meaning that you only have one slot open and it's prolly Double Swing which has OKAY damage IG but your auto's just have 0 support to make w + m1 any good.You can't use Kick, Leap, or Ram because they're competing with skills like HOL or Whirwind: skills that have no cooldown and have access to being spammed since, as we stated before, your shouts are TOP PRIORITY in any situation and most builds use Rallying Cry. (Just checked and every single meta build list for barb is running all 3 shouts and Berserk. The only exception is if they run Deathblow but they're replacing Rallying cry: build is almost the EXACT same every. single. time. So this isn't me just being dilluded this is genuinely supported take)There's NEVER a single damn reason to pick Arsenal builds which sucks because it's one of the coolest aspects about Barbarian (which doesn't fit him sadly) and it's ultimately not worth the time and effort to make it happen because it's clear Barbarian wasn't actually designed around that gimick but instead was probably scrapped from another Class entirely and they didn't want to let it go to waste but instead of just making a DLC Weapons Master character they just... forced it onto Barbarian for some reason?And now for a VERY personal complaint: The fact that Barbarian was basically our (us tank mains) only option for tanking is ABYSMAL. He is NOT a good tank class. He is just very beefy and it's the best we got. The only forms of CC we can use are Stomp and Challenging and that's basically it. Any other hard cc is a waste because it's in (as stated before) in competition with far bettemore useful skills. But speaking to other players who typically love fighteberserkers, he's also a slap in the face to the title of Fighter since he has very little fighter support. Half his skills are dedicated to the fortify mechanic (which just doesn't really fit him well if there was another tank class in the game) and all other skills can go right in the trash because unless it's geared towards fortify, shouts, and HOL/Whirlwind it is absolutely USELESS in late game. He has 0 auto-attack skill buffs going for him (like a Core skill that drains Fury to give him lifesteal + auto attack damage maybe) that are worth considering so that doubly screws aresnal AND pure fighter builds over. So you can't pick him as anything more than a Whirlwind/Hol spam class and expect to have good results compared to the other classes since they can out dps you easily and have more fun and interesting kits to boot.
And before the comments of "Druid and Necro can be tanky TOO!"
Those classes do not support tank playstyles in the late game to the same degree as, unfortunately, Barbarian in it's current state. I've never seen a Necromancer or Druid be able to go as balls deep as an HOL/Whirl Barb and live to tell the tale. They're usually mid-line fighting as opposed to diving or frontlining.
If someone came up to me RIGHT NOW and asked "do you think I should give Barbarian a try" and I knew they wanted to have a fun late game character I'd tell them "No" because he is just NOT it. He's not interesting since none if his mechanics combine well, w + M1 berserkefighters wont like him because he's going to get VERY outclassed at that stage and struggle to do any damage, build crafters wont like him because all his other builds just don't work, and tank players wont like him because he's not an honest to God tank class like the devs seemed to want to make him last second.
Your options of Barbarian are quite literally: Whirlwind/HOL + Basic Skill that supports that weapon type + Double Shout/Berserk or Triple Shout + Grabbing All Fortify + Thorn passives
And nothing else.
Honestly, they need to just rework this Class he in his current state is not fun to play and even at his most optimal he's just not good. 5 characters was too low of a roster and Barbarian is my number 1 proof of that reality.
Edit: Before I get torched I did forget about the Ramadalnis/Battle Trance double swing build but it literally uses everything I state above except it uses Steel Grasp SOLELY because of the Fury drain and it keeps them from getting away. There's a reason it's not considered a top 3 build from Barbarian and that's really the only reason: it can't use any other shout beside Rallying
