2023.06.10 16:48 Arora21 17yr old soon to be Latin teacher, and I don't know what I'm doing...

I'm writing in this sub-reddit for the first time because I need help and I don't know where else to go. So recently I lined up a job, my first job to be an assistant Latin teacher this summer. However when I went in to be hired I was told that the other teacher left and I would have to take the role as head teacher for around 5 students. My Latin although enough to know everything in the introductory course is rather lacking. I just finished my second year of Latin. I have completed all the Cambridge Latin course books and have read some Caesar, Pliny, and a couple others.
The main issue is that I am not a teacher. I don't know how to teach. I am most familiar with the Cambridge Latin Course so I told the students to get the first red book. The fist class is on 6/18. Then it is once a week for 2 hours each session for about 8 total sessions.
If anyone has any advice to bestow upon me I'd really appreciate it.

2023.06.10 16:48 l0c0d0g How to measure oil level on Astra J 1.7 CDTI

I know how to take oil measurements, I did it many times on other cars. Get car to running temp, switch off, wait for 10 minutes, get dipstick out, wipe it, stick it again and read the level.
Problem here is that dipstick is almost 10cm above measurement marks oily. I was hoping that after several attempts it will become readable but no. I've just spent 20 minutes wiping and dipping and every time it's all messed up. Is there some trick to get it. Last time I had the same problem and went to the service, the guy there got the correct reading after like 2-3 attempts, so what am I doing wrong?

2023.06.10 16:47 qUxUp If I'm only interested in singleplayer (just driving around, unlocking vehicles etc) would buying the crew 2 for ps4 be a bad idea?

I really like the idea that the crew 2 has multiple vehicles and a large map. However I don't know much about the series. It seems to be quite a arcade game, I'm fine with that. I usually like simcades a bit better, but arcade is also cool.
I'm just worried that maybe the game just isn't much fun in singleplayer.
do different vehicles feel/handle differently in the crew 2? it's always a pleasure to try out various vehnicles and figure out how to master that specific machine, especially if their engine sound and stuff like that is different.
Thoughts? This series is new to me. Planning to get it on ps4.

I don’t know what set this latest flare off but I’m struggling. Been about 2 weeks of bad bad diarrhea despite sticking to well known safe foods. Do y’all use Immodium to get things calmed down? I’m in a bind bc I really don’t have time for my life to be run by this right now 😩 I had a colonoscopy not quite 6 months ago where they removed some non cancerous polyps and have been tested for inflammatory bowel disease so I feel somewhat optimistic about overall GI tract health. Or rather not as terrified as I was before the colonoscopy. How to bring things under control fast? I’ve been doing shots of Pepto to no avail

2023.06.10 16:47 Ok_Guitar1161 Should I (21F) leave the relationship because my boyfriend (24M) can’t decide if he wants children later on.

TLDR: Boyfriend changes mind on kids every other day but I eventually want a family.
I met this man on Bumble almost 2 months ago. So far everything has been amazing. I see him almost daily and he stays nights at my place. However, we had an argument yesterday that I can’t seem to get over. We’ve had the what I call “honeymoon phase talks” where we discuss the future and what we’d like and he’s always gone back and forth about the topic of children. He goes from “I never want children ever” to “I do want kids”. In the short 2 months I’ve known him he’s probably changed his mind at the very least 8 times. Two nights ago he told me he “absolutely never wants children” and that his “bloodline will end with him”. Obviously this kind of came out of nowhere and surprised me so the following day I texted him about it and just said “you really don’t want kids?” and to my surprise he said “No not really.” That was honestly shocking to me considering the last conversation on the matter he told me his boss had never had kids and seeing how sad his boss was that he definitely without a doubt wants at least 2 kids. This started a whole argument that last almost a full 16 hours throughout text and he said some extremely hurtful things. One of these things being that in the future if I did ever fall pregnant he’d have me get an abortion. I want a family. I’ve told him this since before we even started seeing each other that I want at least one child. Now he’s claiming that if we don’t see eye to eye now there’s no point in continuing the relationship. Is this just a thing for guys his age to go back and forth on the topic of children? I’d never consider having a child at this current age and place in my life but eventually I do want one. I could see myself having one in maybe 5-6 years. Do I give up on the whole relationship because of this? Do guys this age usually change their minds on this type of thing? I don’t want to invest my time into this man and years later he’s still in his “I never want kids” mindset. What do I do?

I was casual friends with the current girl I'm seeing (let's call her Jane) for two years and we only recently got together. Before me Jane dated her ex for three years. For the first 1-2 years they refused to make their relationship official, and didn't say I love you. It was clearly a casual f-buddy with dates sprinkled in. He was a tall muscular dude, and apparently had a huge member (she had told a friend of ours awhile back how amazingly big it was), and Jane is very sex-driven. For example, the only books she reads are smut related.
Despite the fact that they argued constantly, he made her miserable and angry a lot, she stayed with him mostly because the sex was so good and she was lonely/depressed. She stayed with him even after it was clear I liked her and she liked me back for MONTHS. I think that also bothers me. Makes me think the sex must've been that amazing that nothing else mattered.
I'm a very inexperienced guy. I don't like having sex outside of a relationship (I need an emotional connection) and I also have very little relationship experience. I just feel incredibly insecure about her ex. Especially since she is very sex driven, I feel like I'm nowhere near as good as her ex. I'm skinnier, less endowed, and shorter. Everything else I think I have him beat, but that doesn't stop my insecurities.
Yes I know she is choosing to be with me, so I shouldn't be insecure about it, but that doesn't stop my mind from wandering. We probably will end up having sex this weekend but I'm trapped in my own head. I usually don't lack confidence in myself so this is weird...
Any tips on how to move past this?
Tl;Dr I'm very inexperienced while dating a long-time friend who had a well-endowed ex who was apparently amazing in bed. How do I get past my insecurities?

2023.06.10 16:46 Novemberx123 I feel stuck Doordashing at 27 years old?

I have a petty larceny from 2021. I’ve been turned away from Walmart, Target, UPS, FedEx and Amazon.
I’m 27. I have a 28% apr on my 2016 Honda fit with 170k that I’m trying to pay off in the next 2 years. $14k left. Bought it used at 110k on January 2022.
I’m doing all the right steps. I’m paying off my debt. I got a secured credit card for $200 to help rebuild. Im making my car payment on time. I’m able to put away $100 a week to put towards the car loan in every year, including regular maintenance.
Only problem is I’ve been doordashing for 3 years now, paying $540 in gas a month ($6,480 a year) and $1,800 a year on regular car maintenance( transmission fluid change, coolant flush, break flush, serpatine belt, spark plugs, breaks, tires, filters)... I make $630-$700 a week, $30,000-$32,000 a year but after maintenance and gas its really only $21k a year
My plan is to pay this car off in the next 2 years, rebuild my credit, and hopefully be able to work in one of the places I applied too and STOP doordashing full time.
There are restaurant jobs that pay $12 an hour. My question is, does that equal to the same amount that I am making after my $1,760 a year on maintenance and $6,480 a year on gas? How do I do the math of how much I make an hour AFTER gas and maintenance compared to a job that I don’t use my car making $12?
I always thought that doordash was worth it since I make $20 an hour, but it’s the first time I did the math on yearly maintenance and I’m starting to see what everyone says when they say doordash is not worth it.
I always thought “$100-$120 a day is good money! and you on your own time!!” but after $8,300 a year on gas and maintaining the car..is it really?

I have a (hopefully) quick question:
I'm trying to connect syslog-ng to elasticsearch on my ubuntu-22.04-server. To do so, the system informs me that I have to install the syslog-ng-mod-http-package. However, when trying to install it, the system informs me that I already have installed the newest version of it. Reinstalling it, apt-get update and upgrade are of no use either and apt show also shows no discrepancies between the package, syslog-ng-core and syslog-ng, all versions are what they need to be to fulfil each others dependencies (4.2.0-1).
How could I proceed here?

2023.06.10 16:46 Adorable-Worry-7962 Need Advice in Finding/Choosing a New Church

We (22f and 23m) moved about 45 min away from our old city in March and while our old mega church absoletely amazing and only 35 min away, we feel we God is calling us to find a smaller church in our new community.
Non-negotiables to us are 1- No prosperity gospel teaching 2- weekday (M-F) bible study opportunities (we like to be involved in church as it is our community), 3- Biblical teachings obviously (especially on marriage), and 4- a least 2 married couples somewhat close to our age.
Well, after 2 months of just crazy stories and churches that weren't a fit, we found a church that we feel God is calling us to. It meets all of our non-negotiables, + a lot of bonuses like it has so many young families, literally has a young married couple community group, has a mix of traditional (I like) and modern (husband likes) worship and service style. However, it does have a red flag in that the pastor mentioned he has not preached on money in 10 years (he spoke on tithing one of the 2 days we visited and said it was a fear of man that kept him from preaching before.) That did seem like a big red flag considering how often Jesus himself spoke of money in the bible.
I want to meet with the pastor after church tomorrow. What questions should I ask him. Do you think the money thing is a big enough red flag? We have 4 other churches that after doing research may be a good fit for us. Should we try those 4 before making a final decision? We are SO ready to just settle down and get plugged in a Godly community. However, this is such as a major decision as we will be in this church for at least 10 years and be raising our future children in this church.

For context I (26f) have always struggled with my weight, like I mean as young as like 3 or 4 I have memories of people commenting on my weight, though I dont think it bothered me until I got older.
I think I went on my first real diet when I was 13. The summer after 8th grade I did the HCG. For those who don't know you're required to only eat 500 calories a day. So I went from around 175 to 146 (I've always remembered that number cuz it was my lowest weight at my current height 5'4") the first day of freshman year.
I gained a significant amount of weight during hs and after. So by 2018 I was over 300 pounds. There were various diet attempts during that time, but I would always gain back plus more. I was really depressed and I had terrible body image (not as bad as when I was thin though) and my bloodwork came back as prediabetic.
So in 2018 my mom and I went to Mexico for me to get the gastric sleeve surgery. I don't want to get into the details, but the whole medical tourism trip was very traumatic to the point that I almost regretted getting it done.
But I lost 90 pounds in a year, effortlessly. I was 22 and I had never been popular as a kid, so I loving to feel sexy for the first time and going out drinking and meeting guys. And because I lost weight so easily I didn't bother to teach myself about nutrition (also didn't have medical support cuz of having my surgery in Mexico) and late 2019 I started to gain it back. I gained like 30 pounds back before I started trying to lose weight.
And I was back to the same cycle, lose 3 pound, gain 5. Lose 10 pounds, gain 20. (Exaggerating a little, but you'll get what I mean.) I've gained back almost all of my weight.
But I was actively learning about nutrition, intuitive eating, I became pescatarian (for environmental reasons more than health), I started learning about traditional Japanese cooking which involves a lot of vegetables and soups. And for the last 2 years I've been counting calories. I try to eat 1700 calories a day. (Being totally honest, I don't exercise, but I've always been told that exercise only has a small effect on your weight.) And I've been so confused why I haven't lost weight.
So I got my bloodwork done thinking maybe I was diabetic or had thyroid issues cuz those run in my family and I thought maybe they could be the reason I wasn't losing weight. My bloodwork comes back great. A1C great, blood sugar great, thyroid normal, my cholesterol better than average.
My mom said, "well you're just a healthy fat girl."
I am so frustrated. I just started working with a new doctor on it and started an appetite suppressant/mood stabilizer, and I lost weight for a little bit, but now I'm back to where I started. I'm still trying. I'm thinking of maybe lowering my calories. But it's like depressing that all these people in my life eat significantly more than me/make worse food choices but aren't fat. I'm starting to hate my body, not cuz of how I look, but because I feel like it's not working the way it's supposed to and I don't know why.
Sorry for the novel. I've been needing to vent for a while. My doctor has said there's other options if these meds don't work, but I would appreciate any advice. Or just like hearing someone else is going through something similar, cuz I feel like no one gets what this is like for me.

Just venting about a recent incident that happened to me a couple of months back.
I am a 22M that just graduated college in May and worked in a dorm during my final 2 years of university. During the latter part of my third year, I met a girl (20F) who was a year younger than me and was applying for the same job. I hosted her interview and she asked if I was in a certain club on campus. I told her I was and that was the whole extent of that conversation.
Fast forward a couple of months, I find out that she got the job as I ran into her right before the school year started. I built a small friendship with her since we were constantly seeing each other during that time. I was never close to her but we would always banter when we were together. During the school year, I rarely saw her.
Towards the middle/end of this most recent semester (March-ish), I began taking security desk jobs at the dorm this girl lived in since my friend was the head of the dorm and needed help with covering shifts. She found out I was working one night so she decided to stop by and talk a bit. She had a bf at the time and told me that she wasn't happy in the relationship. I told her to try and work things out but they ended things a couple weeks after this encounter. A week or so later, she invited me out to a mall with some of her friends. I felt out of place because I wasn't close to any of her friends. I ended up having a great time with all of them but throughout the day, I got the impression that she was somewhat into me. It was the little gestures like asking me to go into stores with her or accompanying her to the bathroom.
After that day, she found my number and we ended up Facetiming almost daily for a couple of weeks. We ended up sharing a lot of personal information and I thought something would blossom out of it, even if it were for a very short amount of time. I eventually invited her over to my place and I found out she was "into me". Before this point, I'd had no success with women whatsoever. She ended up being the first person I ever cuddled with and we eventually kissed. After this point, she ended things about 3 weeks before the year ended. We both didn't see anything happening after I graduated but I wanted to hold things out to the last week of school. I was confused and hurt on why she ended things so prematurely and asked her if she truly liked me; she never gave a definite answer. I was pretty upset but she still wanted to remain friends after we graduated, so I told her I could keep her up on that promise. We still texted and FT daily and she would tell me all of the problems she was going through. The day before I graduated I texted her if she would miss me after I leave and she told me no. I was staying with my family at a hotel and I was heartbroken when she sent that over text. I was confused and hurt. Why would she FT me everyday and I would listen to her vent, yet she said she wouldn't miss me? On the day of graduation, she said goodbye to everyone she knew but me and one other person. She eventually apologized but I ended all communication with her after that day.
After everything settled, I realized how many red flags she had. She would date guys out of spite just to get attention from them. She remains friends with most of her exes, some of which have been emotionally and verbally abusive. She doesn't have the best relationship with her family. I ended up being her rebound; someone to be tossed aside when she got over the initial heartbreak.
I'm honestly not sure if its right to feel hurt. After all, it was only a couple of weeks. I felt like I opened up to her so much during that time and I was there to listen to her problems. I honestly wanted to be friends with her after we graduated, but I just can't do it after telling me she wouldn't miss me after I left. I just wanted to get this off my chest since its been a lingering thought for the past month. Thanks for reading.
