Coursework: AP Chemistry, Ap U.S. History, AP Lang, in my senior year I am taking AP Gov, AP Lit, and AP Calc AB. I took Dual Enrollment. LATTC (CC) = Intro to Psychology (A) Intro to Sociology (A) American Sign Language (A), Stanford University (Actual University) = CompSci 105 (A+), and also took Communication 101 (A) at USC but through LATTC, and will take 2 other college courses at USC during the summer which are astronomy and sociology 2. I will also take one more college class in my senior year at USC.
Awards: Top 10% Stanford Class Scorer Across the country: Since I had an A+, I scored top 10% out of 4,000 students across the country who took the Compsci class. Students from the National Education Equity Lab program. National Honor Society for National Equity Lab: Since I scored that high, they put me in their National Honor Society. High Honor Roll all High School: this is common but I’ll put it anyway. CompSci 105 Certificate: Since I took the class they gave me a certificate. UCLA Three-day Writing Bootcamp Certificate: I attended a boot camp with the UCLA EAOP program, and I stayed in the dorms for 3 days and took writing classes with other students across LA. Extracurriculars: Mental Health Resource Website(11th): Currently working on a website to add mental health and school resources for students at my school. I am using html, css, and javascript to build it. Took my own initiative to reach out to professionals and students to help me with the project.

Peer Mentor Club(leadership position, maybe president?)(9th-11th)
Work Experience(10th-11th): I worked at a shapewear store, I was in charge of the inventory, and sales, and I was a cashier at the same time. I helped with the inventory system as well. Invited to events by the CEO.
Pop-Rock Club(11th): So far I am learning how to play the guitar and we have done multiple fundraisers to get the instruments and equipment that we need.
Chess Club (10th-11th)(President)
Leadership(10th-11th): I only went to leadership for 1 year since they turned the club into a class, and my school goes by mesters so I only take 4 classes and I have 3 APs so it doesn’t fit my schedule. But when I was in leadership, I would organize events like pep rallies, I would help with fundraisers during Valentine's day or Christmas, holidays basically. I might help them when they do events but I don’t attend meetings.
Chemistry Club (President/Founder): I founded the chemistry club.
Programs(9th-11th): I am in multiple programs, including UCLA EAOP which is a program by UCLA, we go to UCLA all the time which is cool. I am in the USC UpwardBound, I take college classes with them on Saturdays, and in the summer I will be staying at their dorms for 6 weeks taking 2 college classes. We also have community service opportunities in the program. I am also in the Gear Up program, we go on hella field trips and I learn a lot from it. I am in the National Ed Equity Lab which allows low-income students to take college classes at schools like Stanford, Harvard, etc.
Community Service Hours: 300+ with Gear Up and other programs. Will also do community service through the city I am in and will volunteer at a good bank this summer.
Essays/LORs/Other: UC PIQS : Prompt #2: Showing my creative side, I will talk about how I use twigs and leaves to create creatures and characters in order to use storytelling and create a story in nature since my mom taught me that when we used to go to the mountains in my home country, El Salvador, and how that shows my creative side because I am able to express my emotions and thoughts through storytelling.
Prompt #4: Which is how I took advantage of an educational opportunity, I will talk about USC Upward Bound and how it allowed me to find the person I want to be in the future through their resources and tremendous love and care for me (I will go in detail about the opportunities the program provides) and I will mention how I am the first undocumented student to join the program since 1977 which is a huge accomplishment and I want to be able to represent my community and myself.
Prompt #5: My significant challenge and how I overcame it, I will talk about my moms health, and how I had to become an adult at a young age to be able to process the emotions in my household and how I got a job in order to buy school supplies like a laptop and an iPad, to not worry my mom.
And lastly, Prompt #7: Which is how I made my community a better place, I will talk about the mental health resource website and how my exigence was hating to see my friends sad and missing out on big opportunities like I did when I was down, so I created a website to give mental health resources to students at my school.
Schools I want to apply to: I want to apply to UC mostly. I really really want to go to UC Irvine. That is my top choice for sure, please be brutally honest with UC Irvine with my stats.
Little Background: I am really worried about my GPA because my history teacher was a terrible human being so she never gave me an A. And since my school is in the quarter system, AP classes are a year long, however the 2nd and 3rd quarter are called honor classes while we are still in the AP class. Therefore, the AP is 4 grades in total and the teacher gave me 3 Bs and 1 C which brought my GPA down SINCE THEY ARE ALL WEIGHTED. I have all As in my sophomore and junior year except my sophomore year I had 2 Cs. So really, only the APUSH class is the one ruining my life basically.
UCLA UC Irvine UC Riverside UC San Diego UC Santa Barbara UC Santa Cruz UC Davis UC Merced UC Berkley Stanford CSULB CSUF SDSU

2023.06.09 23:55 StrawHatSankara Advice?

Hey everyone,
This is my first reddit post, thought I could use some help with this data analyst job hunt. I graduated with a bachelors in biology, was gonna do healthcare but after some time in the industry I have decided to switch to data analytics. I did the Google DA cert and the new Google Advanced DA cert, as well as the SQL course in DA from UC Davis. I know Java, R, Python, SQL, and Tableau and have done some projects to show that off. I have also taken college courses in Calc I-III, Stats, and Linear Algebra (I want to eventually get a masters in data science). I have been applying non stop for a couple of months now and not a single call back from any employer. Have tried reaching out to hiring managers and writing good CVs but have not heard anything other than rejections which has been sort of demoralizing. Anything I can do to help boost my odds and land an interview?

2023.06.09 04:58 rockymoon7 Pup not eating, tests are negative

Looking for suggestions.
F spayed SchnauzeYorkie/rescue. Approx 9yo. 14.5 lbs, a couple lbs overweight. Had pacemaker implanted 5/2022. Diet: we were currently transitioning her to a new diet with the help of UC Davis Nutrition. Rice, 99/1 turkey, egg, oat bran (and the other things hadn't been added yet).
On 6/2 my dog had a possible neurological episode. She couldn't walk straight, looked drunk. The moment I saw this, I got her in the car and took off to the emergency vet. Within 3-5 mins she was acting normally. Standing on hind legs and wanted to stick her face out the window. Vet ran X-ray to make sure her pacemaker lead was still in the same spot and it was. Got a 60-70BPM. Bloodwork was unremarkable. Vet sent us home.
6/3-6/5 she seemed mostly normal. Not very interested in food though. And she is VERY food motivated.
6/6 she had a bit of bile before breakfast. Drank water excessively throughout the day. Then around 11pm she had two accidents in the house, highly unusual. She also threw up. BMs have been normal.
6/7 Out of it most of the day. Spoke to UCD Cardiologist who doesn't think it's heart related. 4pm took her to primary vet. He gave her a shot of cerenia. Vets have a hard time hearing her HR so it was inconclusive. Still not into her food. She was peppy on her walk that night.
6/8 Did urinalysis and that was unremarkable. Eating grass. Ate some chicken, some carrots. Wouldn't eat rice or turkey. Behavior was closer to normal.
Some things I've considered: foxtail in mouth or nose, dental issue, Addison's, Cushing's. I would appreciate any suggestions on what else the vet and I should be researching or testing. Some more history. Only medication is her flea/heart worm/tick. She had 10 teeth extracted in March. She had a sarcoma removed from her leg in January, ended up non cancerous. And yes, I know, my poor kid has absolutely been through the wringer.

2023.06.09 03:16 UpVoteForSnails Has anyone here transferred from UC Davis?

I’m currently a chemical engineering major but switching into econ for personal reasons. I have essentially no units done for Econ but I’m aware of the pre requisites needed in order to transfer from Davis to Sac.
My question is - do you think it’s a good idea? My biggest reason for switching is that I can’t do the quarter system. Not to trauma dump but I have both schizophrenia and bipolar and I can’t handle the rigor of a quarter system anymore. I also do like the prospect of my gpa starting over after it was crushed by an engineering major I couldn’t handle. The only downside I can think of is that I’m worried a lot of my units won’t transfer over.
I’d love any advice I can get.

2023.06.08 23:11 abbigaileve University of Pacific or UC Davis for Pre-Law Political Science?

Hi all, I just finished up my first year at community college, where i’m going to be TAGing to UC Davis, but I heard good things about U of Pacific’s pre-law program. Does anyone know the differences of the Political Science programs? I’m not sure which one to go for, I’m assuming Davis is better? I just emailed an outreach officer at Pacific, just thought i’d ask students before hearing back. Thanks so much!

2023.06.08 17:37 premedstudent7898 School List/Advice

Hi everyone. I'm in a bit of a unique situation and was hoping to get some general advice. I'm a Canadian citizen, with permanent resident status for CA. I reside in Canada and did my undergrad here too, but got CA residence due to my dads job.
GPA: 3.87 cGPA (might be higher when converted to American), 3.78 sGPA
MCAT: 508 (retaking June 24)
EC: 585 research, 700 clinical volunteering, 580 paid clinical, 4000 paid non clinical across 3 different jobs, leadership role in one of them), 900 non-clinical, diversity/equity based volunteering focused on serving underserved, 400 leadership at a club at my school, 400 non-clinical community service volunteering
Strong focus on health equity, community based health, and I come from an immigrant background which was heavily highlighted in my writing
Here's my school list so far:
George Washington ,Rush ,MCW, West Virginia, Oakland, St. Louis, Tulane, Central Michigan, Uni of Illinois, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Virginia Commonwealth, Penn State, UC Davis, UCLA, Albany, Drexel, TCU, Loyola, Rosalind Franklin, Frank H Netter, Lewis Katz, Robert Larner, California Uni of Med and Science, Eastern Virginia
Will be adding more once I get back my new MCAT. That being said, how is my list so far and should I add these schools to my primary now or wait until late July when I get my MCAT back? Will this put me at a disadvantage for being late? I'd love any advice. Thanks!

2023.06.08 05:06 sad-cloudz Day date in park city, what to do?

I (22F) an planning on a little staycation for my boyfriend (23M) in park city on a Saturday in July. I’ve found a nice hotel for us to stay in and I’ll be paying for him to get a massage at Oasis Massage later in the day to get our room all romanced up. It’ll all mostly be a surprise so he’s just along for the ride! Here’s a general idea of the schedule for the day:
8AM: leave Davis county to drive into park city, perhaps get breakfast before hand 10AM: museum?* Noon: farmers market?* 3PM: massage/hotel check in 5PM: dinner
I’m looking for cheap ish options for things we can do but I’m open to splurging on unique experiences. I was looking into the Gold Pass Session for the Olympic park for the two of us so I’d love to hear thoughts on that activity if you’ve done it! I’ve also love to hear breakfast/brunch/lunch/dinner options if you have recommendations. Thanks!

How GOP efforts to restrict trans rights take a page from the antiabortion playbook
https://archive.is/yqfva
Mary Ruth Ziegler, a law professor at UC Davis and expert on the legal and political history of reproductive rights, said the “linchpin of the strategy” used by opponents of both abortion access and transgender rights has been “starting with the rights of minors.” After Roe was decided, abortion opponents shifted their attention to minors accessing abortions by promoting parental consent laws
“If people are on the fence about whether they're going to tolerate something — a decision that's different from what they would make — they tend to be more uncomfortable when it’s their own child, or even the thought of any child making that decision,” Ziegler said. “It was always, then as now, designed to be an opening wedge in an effort to delegitimize whatever it was for everyone.”
